The Assistant Vice President, Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) provides senior operational leadership and strategic oversight for Accounts Receivable (AR) Follow-Up operations. This role partners closely with Finance and the Vice President for Operations to drive financial performance, operational efficiency, and achievement of revenue cycle objectives, including shared responsibility for P&L outcomes.
The AVP leads RCM/AR Follow-Up Managers and their teams, ensuring performance against KPIs, sustainable productivity, and quality standards. The role requires deep expertise in revenue cycle operations, strong analytical and financial acumen, and the ability to quantify and communicate the impact of upstream revenue cycle issues while executing effective corrective strategies.
Duties And Responsibilities
Financial Performance & P&L Partnership
Partner with Finance and the VP for Operations to support P&L performance for assigned RCM operations, including revenue growth, margin improvement, and cost management initiatives.
Contribute to budget development, forecasting, staffing models, productivity assumptions, and variance analysis.
Analyze operational and financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities impacting profitability and long‑term sustainability.
Support executive decision‑making through accurate performance reporting and financially grounded recommendations.
Operational Leadership & Performance Management
Plan, organize, and direct AR Follow‑Up operations, including insurance billing, collections, denial management, and payer follow‑up activities.
Ensure consistent achievement of KPIs through disciplined execution.
Serve as a strategic partner to the VP for Operations in setting operational priorities and performance standards.
Ensure compliance with billing regulations, payer policies, and industry best practices; adapt operational processes to respond to regulatory and reimbursement changes.
Monitor AR aging, denial trends, charge lag, and cash collections to proactively mitigate risks and opportunities.
Provide concise, executive‑level reporting to the VP for Operations and senior leadership on key operational metrics (e.g., collections, days in AR, denial rates, productivity, and quality).
People Leadership & Talent Development
Provide leadership, coaching, and oversight to RCM/AR Follow‑Up Managers and their teams, fostering accountability and performance excellence.
Support hiring, training, onboarding, performance evaluation, and development of management staff and frontline teams.
Establish and sustain quality assurance and performance management programs, including regular performance reviews and targeted coaching.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, fiscal responsibility, and client‑focused service delivery.
Ensure workforce planning and staffing models align with operational volumes, productivity standards, and financial objectives.
Strategic Projects & Cross‑Functional Leadership
Lead and participate in enterprise‑level initiatives and MSO special projects aimed at improving operational efficiency, scalability, and financial outcomes.
Act as escalation point for complex operational, client, or payer issues requiring senior leadership involvement.
Serve as a representative on client initiatives and performance reviews, ensuring consistent communication back to Operations and Executive Leadership.
Deliver professional, data‑driven analyses and presentations to the VP for Operations, Finance, and Executive Leadership.
Identify and implement best‑practice solutions by evaluating the full revenue cycle end‑to‑end.
Participate in external seminars, training, and industry forums to stay current on revenue cycle trends and innovations.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in physician practice, CBO, MSO, or healthcare revenue cycle operations.
Demonstrated experience partnering with Finance and senior operations leadership to support P&L performance.
Extensive working knowledge of end‑to‑end revenue cycle management systems and workflows with heavy exposure in provider-focused collections.
Proven ability to lead and develop multi‑level management teams in a performance‑driven environment.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and financial interpretation skills.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to executive audiences.
High degree of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
Ability to remain composed and effective in high‑pressure or complex situations.
Results‑oriented, accountable, and adaptable leader with strong operational judgment.
Working Conditions
Work Set-Up: Onsite
Work Schedule: US hours, night shift; must be flexible to accommodate business needs
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move around the work area; Sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear.
Mental Demands: The employee must be able to follow directions, collaborate with others, and handle stress.
