The Medical Coding Academy Training Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive training programs for inpatient and outpatient medical coders. This role ensures coders are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to meet organizational and client standards. The Training Manager oversees curriculum development, trainer performance, and learner outcomes, while aligning training strategies with business goals and compliance requirements
Key Responsibilities
Training Program Development
Design and implement structured training programs for new hires, cross-training, and upskilling initiatives.
Develop curriculum aligned with ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, DRG grouping, UHDDS standards, and payer-specific guidelines.
Create training materials, job aids, and e-learning modules using adult learning principles and modern instructional design.
Academy Operations Management
Oversee day-to-day operations of the Medical Coding Academy, including scheduling, resource allocation, and trainer assignments.
Monitor training progress, attendance, and completion rates; ensure timely certification and readiness for production.
Maintain training dashboards and provide regular reports on learner performance and program effectiveness.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure all training content complies with official coding guidelines, regulatory standards, and client-specific requirements.
Incorporate QA feedback and audit trends into training programs to address recurring errors and knowledge gaps.
Stay updated on coding guideline changes and cascade updates promptly through refresher sessions.
Performance Monitoring
Track learner performance through assessments, mock audits, and post-training evaluations.
Define KPIs for training effectiveness (accuracy improvement, productivity ramp-up, error reduction).
Implement continuous improvement strategies based on feedback and performance data.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with Operations and QA team to align training objectives with business needs and quality goals.
Coordinate with leadership for workforce planning, glidepath timelines, and certification requirements.
Participate in client calls to present training strategies and outcomes when required.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in health information management, Nursing, or related field.
Certifications: Must have CCS/CIC certification. Preferably with CPC-I or AHIMA approved instructor certification/CPMA/Six Sigma – Green Belt or Black Belt
Experience:
5 years of medical coding trainer experience (inpatient and outpatient) with strong ICD-10-CM/PCS expertise.
Proven experience managing training teams and academy operations.
