Job Description
The Lead EIC Engineer is responsible for all deliverables and tasks related to EIC, either at proposal stage (project tendering) or at project execution stage (basic and detailed design).
The Lead EIC Engineer is responsible for managing operationally a team of electrical, instrumentation and control (= automation) engineers for a given project (water / wastewater treatment plant).
The Lead EIC Engineer manages the production of the EIC team (and/or produces directly), is responsible for the work distribution for the EIC discipline, for the checking of the EIC design deliverables (diagrams, calculation notes, lists, specifications…), and ensures that the deliverables related to the EIC discipline are produced within time, quality and budget.
The Lead EIC Engineer is part of the project engineering team, which is led by one Engineering Manager / Technical Coordinator.
For Project Tendering
Analyzes tender requirements (Employer’s requirements), identifies project’s risks and opportunities related to EIC
Produces proposal documentation related to EIC discipline (i.e. single line diagram, control system architecture, electrical equipment list, electrical layout, technical report, calculation notes…) and coordinates with the Proposal team for that purpose
Prepares (or is involved in the preparation of) the EIC costs for the project
Supports the Proposal teams for technical presentations, clarifications and/or negotiations with the Client / Consultant
For Project Execution
The Lead EIC Engineer leads the team of EIC engineers assigned to the project, who have the following tasks:
Production of electrical design deliverables, i.e electrical single line diagram, load list, cable schedule, electrical calculation notes, cable tray layout, electrical room layout, cable connection diagram, etc.
Production of electrical equipment specification/datasheets for inquiry, checking suppliers’ offers (compliance with the inquiry), preparation of the technical comparison table with the suppliers’ offers, technical ranking of the offers, and participation to the selection of the supplier together with the engineering manager, project buyer and project manager.
Production of automation/control design deliverables (control system architecture, I/O list, functional design specifications, hardware/software specifications/datasheets, etc)
Follow up and review of the engineering documentation provided by the suppliers / sub-contractors once purchase order has been placed.
Coordination With The Other Engineering Disciplines, Such As
Check and comment of mechanical equipment datasheet about the electrical information and alignment with the electrical design.
Provide inputs to the drafting team for the preparation of the general layout, networks drawings, buildings and works drawings (reservations for electrical cables / cable trays, location and loads of electrical equipment, panels, etc.)
Support for the approval of the EIC design deliverables approval by Client / Consultant, reply to comments.
Participation to FAT / SAT
Technical support to the construction sites during Civil, Erection and Commissioning stages (for changes, malfunctions, clarifications, etc).
Depending on the project and the progress, the Lead EIC Engineer can be directly in charge of the tasks above.
In addition, the Lead EIC Engineer is directly responsible for the following, on the project assigned to him/her:
Distributing the work between the EIC engineers
Ensuring their production is made according to project schedule
Checking all deliverables produced by the EIC team (technical review of the documents)
Following the productivity of the EIC team of the project
Working closely with the Project Buyer and Expediter
Identifying technical risks / opportunities linked to the EIC discipline and working closely with the Engineering Manager / Project Manager to secure them.
Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years experience.
With at least 5 years experience as EIC Engineer for infrastructure/EPC projects (ideally wastewater treatment plant projects, or petro chemical projects), during engineering phase (basic / detailed design)
Suitable certification / degree qualification in Electrical Engineering
Registered Electrical Engineer.
Knowledge of electrical engineering, HV/LV architecture and design
Leadership, capacity to manage operationally a small team. Meticulous, committed, structured.
Time management and organizational skills.
Communication skills as a team member.
Proficient user of Word, Excel.
Knowledge of Electrical design/calculation software.
