About The Role
The GL and Reconciliation Accountant supports the accuracy, completeness, and timely closing of the company's accounting records. The position prepares bank, credit card, balance sheet, intercompany, and other assigned reconciliations; records approved journal entries and adjustments; and prepares financial schedules for multiple entities. The role works closely with the Accounting Manager, who reviews material balances, unusual items, accounting conclusions, and final financial reports.
What You'll Do
General Ledger and Month End Close
- Prepare recurring and adjusting journal entries with complete calculations, approvals, and supporting documentation.
- Review general ledger activity for unusual, duplicate, omitted, misclassified, or unsupported transactions and recommend corrections.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet schedules and reconcile assigned accounts to statements, subledgers, reports, and other supporting records.
- Support the monthly close of assigned companies, including smaller operating and real estate entities, within established deadlines.
- Assist with income statement and balance sheet preparation and provide clear explanations for significant movements and reconciling items.
- Prepare timely bank reconciliations for assigned corporate and real estate accounts, including Bank of America and other active bank accounts.
- Reconcile assigned company credit cards, including American Express, Capital One, Chase, Amazon, and Bank of America cards, as applicable.
- Investigate deposits in transit, outstanding payments, bank fees, transfers, duplicate transactions, missing entries, and other reconciling differences.
- Ensure reconciling items are supported, resolved promptly, or escalated to the Accounting Manager with a recommended action.
- Maintain reconciliation schedules that clearly identify opening balances, activity, adjustments, unresolved items, and closing balances.
- Prepare monthly closing schedules for assigned entities, including real estate and other smaller companies designated by the Accounting Manager.
- Prepare weekly accounts payable aging reports for assigned real estate companies and follow up on incomplete or overdue supporting documents.
- Prepare intercompany account reconciliations, including A/R and A/P netting schedules, and investigate differences between company records.
- Prepare payroll, Paychex, prepaid expense, accrual, fixed asset, and other assigned supporting schedules.
- Assist in reconciling cash flow statement balances to the balance sheet and income statement.
- Prepare supporting schedules for monthly VAT reporting, sales tax, annual filings, audits, and third-party compliance requests.
- Organize invoices, statements, reconciliations, contracts, calculations, and other documents requested by management, auditors, or tax consultants.
- Respond promptly to review questions and maintain an audit trail for all entries, adjustments, and reconciliation conclusions.
- Follow the company's chart of accounts, entity, class, department, and other transaction-classification requirements.
- Maintain and improve process documentation and standard operating procedures for assigned accounting processes.
- Support testing and implementation of approved automation, reporting, and reconciliation improvements.
- Use AI and automation tools responsibly to support analysis, documentation, and workflow improvement, subject to review and validation.
- Protect confidential financial, banking, vendor, employee, and company information.
- Provide timely status updates and remain reachable during assigned night-shift hours for U.S. team coordination and close-related matters.
Non-negotiables
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance
- At least three years of experience in general accounting, bank reconciliation, financial statement preparation, or month-end close
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including filters, lookup formulas, pivot tables, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Strong understanding of debits and credits, accrual accounting, account classifications, balance sheet reconciliations, and general ledger controls.
- Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, documentation discipline, confidentiality, and follow-through.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues in U.S. time zones.
- At least 1 year experience in night shift working schedule
Preferred
- Experience in preparing, maintaining, and improving process documentation and standard operating procedures
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Desktop, including transaction review, preparation of journal entries and adjustments, account reconciliation, and report generation
- Hands-on experience with Bill.com, including vendor bill review, payment-status monitoring, supporting documentation, and reconciliation
- Experience using AI tools, such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, to support accounting analysis, documentation, reconciliation, and process improvement
- Must be willing and able to work a regular night shift aligned with U.S. business hours.
- Must maintain dependable attendance, punctuality, and availability throughout the assigned shift.
- Must be available during month-end close, payment deadlines, audit requests, and other critical reporting periods. Schedule changes remain subject to management approval and business coverage requirements.
