The Civil Design Engineer will play a key role in producing high‑quality engineering designs, ensuring compliance with both local and international standards, and supporting multidisciplinary project teams.
This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent coordination skills, and the ability to deliver design outputs within schedule and quality required while also making sure that the costs are within the allocated budget.
The Civil Engineer shall be autonomous in carrying out the tasks assigned to him and control both design and construction risk in Water and Waste projects for Suez in SEA region as well as the Suez Global E&C group (as required).
Civil & Structural Design
Prepare preliminary and detailed civil and structural designs for water, wastewater, and waste management projects in Proposal and Execution stages.
Develop and update site development plans, grading plans, drainage layouts, structural layouts, and general arrangement drawings.
Conduct geotechnical assessments, including interpretation of soil investigation reports, evaluation of soil parameters, and integration of geotechnical findings into foundation and structural design.
Perform structural analysis and design of tanks, foundations, buildings, pipe supports, retaining structures, and other civil works.
Coordinate with geotechnical consultants and survey teams to ensure accurate design basis data
Sizing & Quantity Calculations
Conduct engineering sizing calculations, including earthworks, concrete, reinforcement, and structural member sizing.
Prepare detailed quantity take‑offs, ensuring accuracy for cost and material estimates.
Cost Estimation
Prepare engineer’s estimates, bill of quantities (BOQs), material specifications, and cost breakdowns.
Support proposal teams by providing design inputs, quantity estimates, and technical clarifications.
Project Scheduling & Coordination
Assist in developing design and engineering schedules, ensuring all design milestones are met.
Coordinate with project/engineering managers, process engineers, mechanical/electrical teams, and external partners to align design requirements.
Standards & Compliance
Ensure all designs comply with Philippine codes, including:
National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP)
National Building Code (NBC)
DPWH and LGU requirements
Apply relevant international standards, such as:
ACI, AISC, ASCE
Eurocodes
ISO design principles
HSE Responsibilities (Proposal And Execution Phases)
HSE in the Proposal and Design Phase
Integrate HSE requirements into design deliverables, ensuring all civil and structural designs meet safety regulations and risk‑reduction principles.
Conduct Design Risk Assessments (DRA) to identify hazards related to constructability, operation, and maintenance.
Ensure relevant HSE standards are applied, including local laws and international best practices.
Review and validate HSE‑related design inputs (geotechnical risks, slope stability, site elevation hazards, flood risks, etc.).
HSE in the Construction Phase
The Civil Design Engineer will support HSE site resources if/when required.
Quality Responsibilities (Proposal And Execution Phases)
Quality in the Proposal and Design Phase
Ensure all deliverables comply with company quality procedures (OMEGA), design standards, and project specifications.
Ensure traceability and proper documentation of all design decisions and revisions.
Contribute to continuous improvement, standardization, and knowledge-sharing across the engineering team.
Quality in the Construction Phase
The Civil Design Engineer will support Quality site resources if/when required.
Knowledge Management & Lessons Learned (REX)
Identify, document, and report lessons learned from all phases of civil and structural design activities, including geotechnical, topographical, and multidisciplinary interfaces.
Consolidate project‑specific REX and contribute to the development of internal design standards, guidelines, and best practices.
Participate in technical reviews or debrief sessions to ensure continuous improvement in design quality, constructability, safety integration, and efficiency.
Support the engineering team in embedding REX into future designs, templates, and engineering procedures.
Audit of civil works design offices and contractors
Perform civil works audits of potential civil sub-contractors/partners prior to proposal phase in the country and/or South-East Asia.
Qualifications
Degree in Civil Engineering
Registered Civil Engineer
Minimum of 7 years in Civil Engineering Design water treatment plants, wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations and industrial or environmental infrastructure projects.
