Mō te tūnga | About the role
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the
Financial Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of Oranga Tamariki’s financial information and supporting statutory and management reporting requirements.
This role is well suited to a qualified accountant who enjoys working in a complex public sector environment and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Making sure our financial records are accurate, complete, and kept up to date
- Preparing monthly and annual financial statements and meet Treasury and statutory reporting requirements
- Helping respond to audits, OIA requests, Select Committee questions, and other information requests
- Improve the way we do things by strengthening financial systems, processes, and controls, and providing clear accounting advice to colleagues

Experience And Qualifications
- Proven experience in financial accounting and reporting
- Understanding of public sector financial reporting requirements (or the ability to learn quickly)
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance
- CAANZ qualified, or an equivalent membership
- Experience with SAP is desirable but not essential
Skills and attributes
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage deadlines and priorities in a reporting-driven environment
- A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples’ culture
- The valid right to work in New Zealand, and be based in Wellington

Oranga Tamariki offer a step-based remuneration package, that offers progression annually for experience through tenure. Annual remuneration for this position starts between $77,886 and $86,082 dependant on experience.
