POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in Puerto Princesa, Palawan
The Forest Restoration Site Assistant shall assist the Site Coordinator in the day-to-day implementation of planned activities for the forest restoration in Cleopatra’s Needle Critical Habitat. He will assist in ensuring effective communications and information sharing between all partners and stakeholders, and in ensuring effective and efficient delivery of targets and good-quality results.
Guided by CI’s forest restoration monitoring framework, they shall assist in the establishment of baseline and in monitoring seedling survival, tree cover change, disturbances, and community benefits, among others.
Responsibilities
Project Implementation
Assist in ensuring effective and efficient implementation of forest restoration activities in Cleopatra’s Needle Critical Habitat in Puerto Princesa City, in coordination with partner communities, local government units (barangay & city), and the management board.
Assist in assessing priority sites for restoration.
Assist in identifying appropriate sites for nursery establishment; provide technical support in nursery establishment and management.
Assist in monitoring all restoration activities and ensure quality performance by all involved.
Assist in establishing baseline and in monitoring seedling survival, tree cover change, disturbances, and community benefits.
Assist in strengthening local capacity on grassland fire suppression, development of community resource protocols, forest resource assessment, amongst others.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Networking, Partnership, and Advocacy
Assist in facilitating social preparation to establish a partnership with indigenous people and local communities, local government units, and local service providers in Puerto Princesa.
Assist in gathering, developing, and sharing project information, action plans, and deliverables with internal and external project stakeholders.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The duty station is in CI office in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, with 90% field work that involves extended stays onsite, often outdoors, primarily in remote villages.
Qualifications
Required
Up to 2 years of experience.
Detail-oriented and able to prioritize, manage, and complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Team player and able to work effectively with diverse work groups in a multicultural environment.
Ability to work well under pressure, multitask, set priorities, and deliver quality results.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and under general supervision.
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in forestry, environmental science, or related discipline.
A candidate/applicant with an understanding of the socio-economic and environmental issues facing Palawan/Puerto Princesa, indigenous peoples, and local communities is strongly preferred.
Proficiency in the local dialect is an advantage.
