KETV-TV, the ABC affiliate in Omaha, NE, is offering paid internships in our News Department for Summer 2026.
We are looking for candidates who are interested in either News, Weather, or Sports.
Interns in the News Department have a variety of opportunities:
Go out to the field and shadow crews
Take notes at courtroom proceedings
Answer phones, learn police/scanner codes and how to gather information for a possible news story
Get the chance to see the inner workings of the news department and learn what it takes to cover/research
Learn how to edit, photograph, produce, and write stories
Applicant should have basic multi-media computer skills and familiarity with current Internet technology including download of materials for promos and commercial client spots
Capable of following instructions, verbally and written
In-person attendance is required
Opportunities For Interns In The Weather Department Include
Shadow meteorologists during daily forecast preparation and live newscasts
Learn the station’s weather systems and workflow (radar, satellite, model data, and alerting tools)
Assist with gathering and organizing forecast data, graphics, and weather story elements for shows
Help monitor active weather and support severe weather coverage (warnings, storm reports, and viewer questions)
Observe how forecasts are communicated across TV, digital, and social platforms
Support weather-related special projects, including climate/weather research and community outreach planning
Gain exposure to studio operations as they relate to weather segments (timing, coordination, and on-air workflow)
Opportunities For Interns In The Sports Department Include
Shadow sports reporters/photographers in the field and during live coverage
Assist with logging games, pulling highlights, and organizing video for sportscasts
Help research stats, storylines, and background for local teams and athletes
Support interview setup and note-taking at practices, games, and press conferences
Learn the basics of writing for broadcast (scripts, VO/SOTs) and building a sports segment
Gain hands-on exposure to editing workflows and producing short sports content for TV and digital
Observe newsroom coordination and deadline-driven production for nightly sportscasts
Assist with social/digital sports coverage, including clipping and publishing highlights
