Early Childhood - Teacher

Summary

In collaboration with co-teachers, the Teacher is responsible for developing emergent curriculum, managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom, and creating documentation of children’s play. Teachers must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and engaging classroom environment where children and families feel welcome. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively collaborate with co-teachers, and resolve family concerns.

This position is specifically for our Toddler program, serving ages 1-3 in a mixed-age classroom.

This position reports to the Director.

Duties

• Collaborate with co-teacher to develop and implement emergent curriculum based on observation of children and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Document children’s play and work.
• Maintain frequent communications with families through informal discussions, documentation, and parent-teacher conferences.
• Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
• Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
• Collaborate with Director to continue professional development.
• With rest of staff, work to create and maintain a responsive and caring school community
• Actively engage respectfully with children, families, and staff.
• Caregiving activities such as hand washing, toileting/diapering, or changing clothes.
  
  

• Minimum of 1 year of professional child care experience.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
• Resiliency and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
• A strong understanding of child development.
• Must clear full background check and must pass TB test.
• Child Care Basics (30 hours Stars), First Aid/CPR, BBP, and Food Handlers Permit (We can help you with this!).
  
  

• High School Diploma or GED
• Associates or Bachelor Degree with ECE credits valued.
  
  

• Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl.
• Must be able to see and hear a child in distress up to 50 feet away.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs. repeatedly during the course of each day.
• Must be able to sit on the floor with children and be able to get up quickly.
  
  

• Paid federal holidays + two weeks paid time off at end of December
• Paid sick time accrued 1 hour per 40 hours worked.
• COLA increases each September.
