Position Summary

The Lab Quality Specialist is accountable for oversight of laboratory quality system activities in support of the organizations Quality Management Program and applicable compliance standards. This role identifies system deviations or gaps and implements improvement measures in collaboration with section leaders. The specialist partners with laboratory leadership to address compliance issues identified through audits, tracers, and mock inspections.

The Lab Quality Specialist actively participates in system-wide quality initiatives and committees and serves as a positive, influential change agent for laboratory services. This role provides leadership in quality improvement, regulatory readiness, and continuous performance improvement.

License/Certification/Registration required? Yes

  • Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Certification or equivalent professional organization in accordance with CLIA standards.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry or Biology or related fields.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a health care setting.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical laboratory experience.
  • 2 years of experience managing or developing quality/compliance programs and active participation in quality initiatives preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • College of American Pathology (CAP) team inspector training required or must be obtained within 3 months of hire.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Highly organized, efficient, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with word processing, Excel spreadsheet and graphs, statistical analysis, Power Point presentations, and flow diagrams.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment, instrumentation and terminology.
  • Knowledge of laboratory and hospital safety.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Ability to coach, mentor and support individuals.

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. Annual salaries displayed are based on full-time employment (40 standard hrs per week). Annual salaries for part-time positions will be prorated based on the employee’s scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full-time standard. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
