The special care nursery in Minneapolis is a 33-bed, 24-room unit and is part of the Mother Baby Center at Abbott Northwestern and Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis Hospital. The special care nursery team cares for babies who are 32 weeks and older and require a higher level of care than the newborn nursery provides, as well as full-term babies who may be sick, have an anomaly or are transitioning from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to home. We care for these babies and their families and provide education to help them learn how to care for their baby at home. Our team of nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, neonatologists and nurse practitioners work together to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for the patients, families and staff. We value teamwork, open communication, safety and respect. We embrace an environment that encourages learning and professional growth. Our team is committed to providing excellent care to our patients and families.
