The City of Sunrise is seeking a detail-oriented and community-driven professional to join our Planning & Development team as an Assistant City Planner.

About the Role

As an Assistant City Planner, you’ll support long-range planning, zoning, land use, and community development efforts that directly impact the quality of life in Sunrise.

Youll work closely with residents, developers, and City staff to guide sustainable growth and support policy development rooted in smart urban planning principles.

Key Focus Areas

• Conduct research, data analysis, and reports for planning and zoning issues
• Interpret zoning codes, land development regulations, and comprehensive plans
• Prepare recommendations for site plans, variances, and rezonings
• Assist with public outreach, special projects, and presentations to boards
• Support long-term initiatives related to sustainability, economic growth, and transportation planning

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelors degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred)
• Considerable full-time professional level planning experience in the area of urban planning
• Knowledge of Florida planning regulations and public hearing procedures
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical mindset with a passion for community impact
