Are you a detail-oriented legal professional with a strong interest in commercial contracts, compliance, and corporate governance? IZI Group welcomes applications for a committed Legal Assistant to provide comprehensive legal, contractual, and administrative support to our Group Legal Counsel.
In this vital role, you will serve as a trusted legal adviser to internal stakeholders, helping to mitigate operational risks, support strategic objectives, and uphold the highest standards of legal integrity across all business units.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Contract Expertise: Draught, review, negotiate, and manage the full lifecycle of commercial agreements, including Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), and Supplier Agreements. Maintain and update standard contract templates to ensure compliance with current legislation and best practise.
Tender and Risk Assessment: Work closely with the Tender Department to review submissions, identifying legal risks, contractual exposures, and compliance issues prior to award finalisation.
Compliance and Legislative Monitoring: Monitor regulatory changes and compliance requirements to ensure the Group remains informed and aligned. Encourage adherence to internal policies by providing practical and proactive guidance to business units.
Legal and Secretarial Support: Assist the Group Legal Counsel with legal research, drafting opinions, and managing legal matters. Support corporate governance by preparing board packs, drafting resolutions, and coordinating submissions to the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) as well as Annual Returns.
Stakeholder Liaison and Advisory: Act as the primary point of contact between the Legal Department, executive leadership, external legal advisers, and regulators, delivering clear, commercially focused legal advice.
Qualifications And Competencies
Grade 12 / Matric Certificate or equivalent.
Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree.
Relevant legal qualification (LLB degree, Paralegal Diploma, or equivalent).
Desirable: Certifications in Corporate Governance, Company Secretarial Practise, or Compliance.
Experience And Knowledge
2-3 years' post-article experience within a law firm, in-house legal team, or public sector environment.
Proven skills in commercial contract drafting, negotiation, and legal risk management.
Comprehensive knowledge of South African Contract Law, the Companies Act, King IV, POPIA, BCEA, LRA, FICA, NCA, and PPPFA.
Advantageous: Experience with tender evaluations, procurement law, and legal research tools such as LexisNexis.
