Sales Engineer / Presales Consultant

During the sales process, the Sales Engineer is responsible for delivering customer‑facing technical engagement and presales services. This role focuses on understanding customer requirements, analysing technical needs, and presenting effective solutions that align with Archer’s products and services. The Sales Engineer works closely with Sales, Engineering, and other internal teams to ensure high‑quality technical execution throughout the sales lifecycle.

What You’ll Achieve

In this role, you’ll enable successful sales outcomes by owning the technical presales motion for assigned engagements. You’ll deliver services to defined quality and service levels, translate customer requirements into technical solutions, and clearly articulate Archer’s value through analysis, configuration, and presentation.

You Will

  • Deliver all presales services to the field within defined SLAs and quality measurements.
  • Interpret customer requests and upload data from customer systems (e.g. servers, file services, databases, or catalogues) into analytical tools to create customised analyses of potential solutions.
  • Prepare and deliver customer‑facing technical presentations that clearly explain solution architecture, configuration, and recommendations.
  • Log and track requests accurately to ensure visibility and effective management of Sales and Presales activities.
  • Escalate issues where appropriate to the Team Leader or Manager.
  • Provide knowledgeable support across Archer services, solutions, and products to address customer and sales inquiries.
  • Respond to technical inquiries covering product features, functionality, compliance, usage, configuration, and support considerations.
  • Perform technical configuration requests using configuration tools and resolve configuration issues as they arise.
  • Create before‑and‑after technical diagrams of customer environments, requiring detailed product and solution knowledge.
  • Manage RPQ case activity and maintain effective working relationships with Engineering teams.
  • Time and territory management - Overnight travel required and could exceed 30%.
  • Ability to speak in front of small to medium size audiences (1 to 100 people)

Skills And Capabilities

  • Proficiency in hardware, software, and/or operating system environments.
  • Strong product and solution knowledge, with a high degree of attention to detail and technical accuracy.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver customer‑facing technical presentations, explaining complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective time‑management and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple presales requests concurrently.
  • Strong cross‑functional collaboration skills, working effectively with Sales, Engineering, and other internal teams.

Experience And Education

  • Typically requires 2+ years of related experience in a professional role with a Bachelor’s degree; or
  • An advanced degree without experience; or
  • Equivalent practical experience.
