Job Description

At TrueVault, we move fast, stay focused, and build products that solve real problems for real customers. We’re looking for a Director of Product who is energized by the challenge of turning complexity into clarity—someone who can take evolving requirements and shape them into elegant, intuitive products that people love to use.

About TrueVault

Privacy is one of the most fundamental rights we have.

At TrueVault, we believe that when businesses have access to tools that make compliance simple, respecting consumer privacy becomes the obvious choice — and everyone wins. That’s why we build software that helps brands comply with complex privacy laws without drowning in legal costs or red tape.

We’ve cracked the code on making compliance something companies can handle themselves — no armies of lawyers required.

We’re a Y Combinator–backed startup based in San Francisco, obsessed with building products that solve hard problems and relentless about making our customers successful.

Why Join TrueVault

TrueVault has a product that works. Customers trust it. Our lifetime logo retention is 93%. That tells us we’re solving a real problem. But we’re still early, and there’s a lot left to build. The next phase of the product will be shaped by the person in this role.

We believe privacy is fundamental. Our job is to build software that helps companies meet that responsibility in a practical way. The work isn’t theoretical. It’s about turning changing regulations and real customer needs into clear, reliable product decisions.

Quality matters here. The product needs to work well, feel consistent, and hold up under real-world use. Details aren’t cosmetic — they affect trust and usability.

You’ll work with a tight-knit, capable Product and Engineering team. People are thoughtful, direct, and focused on shipping good work.

This role comes with ownership. You’ll set direction, make tradeoffs, and be accountable for outcomes. If you want responsibility and the ability to shape a product that customers depend on, this is that opportunity.

About the Role

As Director of Product at TrueVault, you’ll own the next phase of a product customers already trust. You don’t need to be a legal expert. We have an in-house attorney who translates regulatory changes into clear inputs. Your job is to turn those inputs into product decisions that are useful and reliable for customers operating in complex environments.

Understanding customers is a core part of the role. You’ll speak with them directly and work closely with Customer Success to build a clear, durable understanding of their needs and constraints. What you learn should directly shape what we build and how we build it.

This role requires ambition. Compliance software doesn’t have to be reactive or limited. You’ll identify where the product should go next and define what a strong, modern platform in this space looks like.

Details matter. Small decisions affect usability and trust. You’re expected to notice friction, simplify workflows, and hold a high bar for quality. The goal is software that feels consistent, dependable, and well thought through.

The work is practical and consequential. Customers rely on this product to operate responsibly. You’ll have autonomy, responsibility, and accountability for moving it forward.

Key responsibilities

  • Understand customers deeply — Maintain a clear, first-hand understanding of customer needs, constraints, and priorities, and ensure that understanding drives product decisions.
  • Set product direction and make tradeoffs — Define where the product is going, maintain the roadmap, and decide what to build and what not to build.
  • Work across teams to ship product — Partner with Engineering, Design, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success to turn plans into delivered features.
  • Drive measurable results — Define the metrics that matter, track them consistently, and use them to guide decisions and iteration.

What we are looking for

  • Product ownership experience — At least 5 years owning a roadmap, defining success metrics, and being responsible for outcomes.
  • Experience in ambiguous environments — You’ve built products at an early-stage company or on a new product where direction wasn’t predefined and you had to create clarity.
  • Ability to turn internal inputs into product — You’ve taken requirements from internal teams (e.g., legal, ops, platform, data) and translated them into clear, customer-facing features.
  • Comfort with autonomy and responsibility — You can set direction, maintain momentum, and take responsibility for results without heavy oversight.
  • Comfort in flat, async teams — You’re comfortable with open communication, direct collaboration, and transparent decision-making in Slack and Linear.
  • Experience in regulated domains (bonus) — Experience building products in regulated areas such as privacy, fintech, legal, or compliance is helpful but not required. IAPP certifications such as CIPP/US or CIPP/E are a plus.

Metrics for Success

We believe in setting clear, achievable expectations. Success in this role will be measured by:

  • Customer interaction KPIs — A consistent cadence of direct customer conversations, with documented insights that influence roadmap decisions.
  • Retention and satisfaction KPIs — Strong logo and revenue retention, along with stable or improving renewal feedback and customer sentiment.
  • Engagement and usage KPIs — Increased adoption and depth of usage across core workflows.

Career Growth Path

This role starts with ownership of a core product that already has traction and trust. You’ll be responsible for how it evolves as the company grows.

As TrueVault expands its product surface area, your scope will expand with it. You’ll help shape how new initiatives are evaluated, how product decisions are made, and what quality standards we maintain as we scale. Over time, this will include leading additional product areas, mentoring other product leaders, and contributing to broader company strategy.

Where will you work

This is a fully remote role, but you must be based in the United States.

Salary & Compensation

This role is leveled as a Senior Individual Contributor (Pave level: P4)

  • Base salary: $165,000 - $185,000
  • Equity: ~0.40% - ~0.50% fully diluted

Final offers may vary slightly based on experience.

What we offer

  • 100 percent covered health, dental, and vision insurance for you; 70 percent for dependents. You can preview our medical benefits here.
  • Unlimited PTO (and the encouragement to use it).
  • A primarily remote team. We have team members in NY, San Francisco, and everywhere in between.
  • 3 percent 401(k) contribution
  • FSA/HSA
  • Equity
