As a Database Engineer within our IT Systems & Solutions team, you will be responsible for maintaining the reliability, performance and security of our Microsoft SQL Server environments. You will support day-to-day database operations, including troubleshooting, upgrades, and ensuring strong backup and disaster recovery practices.


You will also contribute to continuous improvement by optimising performance, streamlining processes, and automating routine tasks. In this hands-on role, you will provide Service Desk support, proactively monitor system health and ensure timely resolution of issues to support a seamless experience for the business.


Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the installation, configuration and patching of SQL Server environments, ensuring systems remain current and compliant
  • Design and maintain database architectures that support scalability, resilience and business growth
  • Implement and manage data security frameworks, including access governance and vulnerability remediation
  • Partner with internal teams to deliver database components of technology projects and system enhancements
  • Maintain detailed documentation, standards and procedures to support consistent and effective database operations


What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong experience in Microsoft SQL Server administration, including SSRS and SSIS, with solid T-SQL scripting capability
  • Expertise in SQL Server performance tuning, optimisation and high availability solutions (including Availability Groups)
  • Hands-on experience with backup, recovery and disaster recovery planning, alongside knowledge of security best practices
  • Exposure to Windows Server environments, including failover clustering and general server management
  • Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work independently, collaborate effectively and continuously learn and improve
