The Associate Director, Legal Content Management will be responsible for the strategic leadership, governance, and operational excellence of the Firm’s legal content assets. The role‑holder will ensure that all legal know‑how, precedents, templates, playbooks, and client‑facing content are accurate, current, discoverable, reusable, and commercially valuable.
The individual will work at the intersection of knowledge management, practice support, technology, risk, and client service delivery, enabling lawyers to work more efficiently while protecting the Firm’s intellectual capital and brand.
Main responsibilities:
Strategy & Governance:
- Continue to lead execution of the Firm’s legal content strategy, aligned to Firm strategy, data program, practice priorities, and client needs
- Establish and maintain content governance frameworks, including ownership, lifecycle management, approval workflows, quality standards, and risk mitigation
- Set policies for appropriate content creation, use, reuse, version control, retention, and archiving, ensuring consistency across practices, jurisdictions, and functions
- Support the AI program from a legal content perspective, including AI content readiness, disaggregation and reuse, AI risk, and governance
- Partner with Risk, Compliance, Professional Standards, and Security to ensure content meets regulatory, ethical, and professional obligations
Legal Content Operations:
- Oversee the end‑to‑end lifecycle of legal content management, including:
- Precedents and templates
- Practice notes and guidance
- Client alerts, thought leadership, sales enablement, and other external legal (and sector) content
- Playbooks and process documentation
- Legal training content
- Drive standardization and rationalization of legacy content to reduce cost, inefficiencies, duplication, and risk
- Ensure content is practice‑led, user‑centric, and fit for purpose
Technology & Platforms:
- Lead functional direction of legal content platforms (e.g., document management systems, knowledge management portals, precedent libraries, intranet, external legal content repositories)
- Work closely with the broader Technology Team, Applied AI Team, and vendors to:
- Improve findability, accessibility, quality, ROI, and personalization
- Improve search, tagging, and metadata
- Enable automation and document assembly
- Support AI‑assisted drafting and content reuse
- Act as a key business stakeholder for content‑related technology initiatives
- Remain up‑to‑date on relevant developments and technology
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Partner with Practice Group Leaders, Knowledge Lawyers, Practice Innovation Lawyers, and subject matter experts to prioritize, identify gaps, and curate high‑value content
- Influence senior lawyers to adopt content standards and contribute to shared knowledge assets
- Collaborate with Leadership & Learning on the management of legal training content
- Collaborate with Business Development, Marketing and Communications (BDMC) and Applied AI on client‑ready content and reusable legal products
People Leadership:
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team
- Set clear objectives, performance measures, and development pathways for team members
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation
Commercial & Client Impact:
- Support the Firm’s pricing, efficiency, and alternative delivery strategies
- Enable scalable client solutions and legal products
- Set, track, and report on relevant KPIs, such as content usage, value, and impact on lawyer productivity and client outcomes
Skills and experience:
- A qualified lawyer is preferred
- Extensive experience in legal knowledge management, legal content, or practice support within a large law firm or equivalent professional services environment
- Can demonstrate leadership of firm‑wide or multi‑practice initiatives
- Strong understanding of:
- Law firm workflows and practice economics
- Precedent management and legal drafting standards
- Document and knowledge management systems
- Experience working with legal technology, including AI‑enabled tools is preferred
