The Chemist will be responsible for the overall operation of the laboratory and will be the custodian of all the laboratory equipment and its quality assurance / control. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that all laboratory procedures are in accordance with standards and/or validated. The chemist shall confirm that all procedures are strictly implemented.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be
Ensuring a basic understanding of Powerplant Chemistry.
Maintaining the appropriate environment for sample preparation and analysis, and ensuring good housekeeping is observed in the laboratory at all times.
Ensuring that all reagents, equipment, test procedures, or measuring techniques are based on standards.
Ensuring all laboratory equipment and online analyzers undergo scheduled maintenance and that their maintenance records are kept updated.
Reporting, recording, and rectifying any equipment irregularities before performing any analysis.
Ensuring all laboratory equipment is calibrated before use and that all standards used are acceptable as per standard methods and procedures.
Performing calibration and calibration checks as per schedule using reference standards, and maintaining proper documentation.
Making sure sampling procedures are implemented and appropriate sample containers are provided.
Following procedures for the transport, receipt, handling, protection, storage, retention, and/or disposal of samples.
Ensuring sample labels always follow established laboratory coding.
Establishing and implementing Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) criteria for chemical analyses and laboratory procedures.
Validating methods and procedures.
Monitoring the monthly Long-Term Plant Health Index (LTPHI).
Reviewing test results before reporting and ensuring correct forms are used.
Ensuring all direct reports comply with existing procedures and external government regulations.
Performing risk assessment and mitigation.
Conducting regular laboratory chemical inventory and creating Purchase Requisitions for items related to Chemical Services.
Performing other related work as required or assigned
Education & Experience
Must be a Licensed Chemist.
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a laboratory role
Technical / Functional Skills
Basic understanding of Powerplant Chemistry.
Good command of the English language (both writing and speaking).
Good interpersonal, communication, and motivational skills, coupled with a flexible, enthusiastic, and committed attitude toward work.
Team player who is willing to share knowledge, while also possessing the ability to work independently.
Good understanding of MS Office, including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
Ability to work under pressure and successfully meet deadlines
