Job Description

Position Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented Software QA Tester to join our engineering organization and help ensure the quality, reliability, and usability of our healthcare software products. You will work hands-on with our in-house developed applications — with a primary focus on our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and our end-to-end Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) platform — testing new features, validating bug fixes, and helping the development team ship software that providers, billers, and administrators can rely on.

This role is well-suited for an experienced QA professional looking to grow within a healthcare-focused engineering team, or for a recent computer science / software engineering graduate who wants to get hands-on exposure to real-world software development by starting on the QA side. You will partner directly with developers, product managers, and other QA team members to clarify requirements, design test cases, execute test runs, and provide clear, actionable feedback that drives product quality forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute manual test cases against new features, bug fixes, and regression suites across our EHR, RCM, and billing applications.
  • Read and interpret feature requirements, user stories, and design specifications to develop clear, repeatable test plans and test cases.
  • Perform functional, regression, exploratory, cross-browser, and basic usability testing on web-based applications.
  • Reproduce reported issues, identify clear steps to reproduce, and document defects with sufficient detail (environment, data, screenshots, logs, expected vs. actual behavior) for the development team to act on quickly.
  • Track, prioritize, and manage tickets and test progress in JIRA, including filing well-formed bug reports and verifying fixes.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, refinement, retrospectives) and provide quality input on user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate closely with developers throughout the development cycle — not just at the end — to catch issues early and reduce rework.
  • Validate workflows that span both clinical (EHR) and financial (RCM/billing) sides of the platform, ensuring data flows correctly end-to-end (e.g., from documentation through charge capture, claim generation, payment posting, and reporting).
  • Maintain organized test documentation, including test cases, test data, and results, so that knowledge is shared across the team.
  • Help uphold our HIPAA-aligned security and privacy practices during testing, including responsible handling of any PHI or PHI-like test data.
  • Continuously look for opportunities to improve QA processes, test coverage, and tooling.

Required Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience testing software platforms in a professional environment, OR Equivalent hands-on exposure to the software development process.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, break down workflows, and approach software testing systematically.
  • Solid understanding of how software is built and shipped, including version control, build/release cycles, and the general roles of developers, QA, and product within an engineering team.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental QA concepts: test cases, test plans, regression testing, smoke testing, exploratory testing, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and reproducible bug reports with appropriate detail and severity/priority assessment.
  • Comfort testing modern web applications across major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) and screen sizes.
  • Basic familiarity with reading and writing simple SQL queries to validate data in a relational database (e.g., SELECT statements, joins, filtering).
  • Comfort using browser developer tools (inspecting elements, viewing console logs and network requests) to help isolate issues.
  • Hands-on experience with JIRA (or a similar issue tracker such as Azure DevOps or Linear) for ticket creation, tracking, and workflow management.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and working alongside a development team in sprint cycles.
  • Comfort working with shared documentation tools (e.g., Confluence, Google Docs, Notion) for test plans and knowledge sharing.
  • Working understanding of HIPAA Privacy and Security Rule fundamentals, particularly as they relate to handling Protected Health Information (PHI) in development and test environments.
  • Awareness of the importance of using sanitized or synthetic data, avoiding the storage of real PHI in unsecured locations (screenshots, tickets, shared docs), and following established policies for access and data handling.
  • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior exposure to testing healthcare software (EHR/EMR, RCM, medical billing, practice management, or similar).
  • Basic familiarity with healthcare concepts such as patient encounters, claims, EOBs/ERAs, eligibility, or the general flow of the revenue cycle.
  • Experience with API testing tools such as Postman or Insomnia.
  • Exposure to test management tools (e.g., TestRail, Zephyr, Xray).
  • Exposure to or interest in test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright); no prior automation experience required, but willingness to learn is a plus.
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor) responsibly to assist with tasks like generating test case ideas, drafting bug reports, or exploring application behavior — we view AI as a force multiplier for QA, not a replacement for sound testing judgment.
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Details

  • Must be willing to work US hours. This position requires flexibility in working hours, covering varying shifts from 7:00 AM Pacific Time to 5:30 PM Pacific Time, based on business needs.
  • This position will be a full time Independent Contractor role
  • This position will be remote, but we are seeking someone based out of The Philippines
  • Pay: $11.00-$14.00 USD/hr depending on experience

If you meet the above qualifications, we encourage you to apply. Please submit your resume in English, along with any relevant portfolio or project examples, for our review.
