We are looking for a CPA-licensed Senior Accountant with strong Philippine tax and statutory experience to run Moongig's finance and accounting operations. This is a hands-on, compliance-focused role: accurate BIR and statutory filings, a monthly close that lands on schedule, and audit-ready books.
You will own the day-to-day: BIR compliance and VAT, monthly close, cashflow tracking, and the statutory filings. You will work directly with the founders, and with our external auditors and counsel on technical positions and anything contentious. Good fit if you catch problems before deadlines rather than after, and you take pride in getting the filings right the first time.
This is a good fit if you want ownership of a full set of books at a growing company and a clear view of how a startup actually runs. If you want a narrow specialist role inside a large finance team, this is not it.
Key Responsibilities
Tax and Statutory Compliance
Prepare and file all BIR returns on time: VAT (registration, filing, returns), withholding tax (creditable and non-creditable), income tax, and quarterly and annual filings
Keep current on Philippine tax law and BIR issuances, and flag changes that affect Moongig before they become a problem
Work day to day in eBIRForms, eFPS, and the BIR validation modules; manage submissions and track filing status
Handle SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, and labor-related filings and remittances on time
Deal directly with our external auditors, tax agents, and government agencies on compliance matters
Keep clean, complete documentation behind every filing and tax position, ready for audit, BIR inquiry, or due diligence
Flag compliance risks early, check tax positions for accuracy, and recommend how to reduce exposure
Prepare tax provisions and track deferred tax items
Close & Reporting
Run the monthly close end to end: journal entries, accruals, reconciliations
Reconcile bank, credit card, payroll, and related accounts monthly
Prepare monthly, year-to-date, and full-year financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) on a tight turnaround
Keep the general ledger clean and the books audit-ready at all times
Prepare investor and board reporting packs when needed
Daily Operations
Manage AP and AR: invoicing, collections, vendor payments, reimbursements
Process payroll and professional fee disbursements accurately and on time
Work with HR and external payroll providers to validate payroll reports and deductions
Track and report cashflow, burn, and runway every week or fortnight
Budget & Variance
Track actuals against approved budgets and flag variances as they appear
Support the founders with cost analysis and unit economics
Systems & Documentation
Maintain and improve accounting tools, trackers, and reports
Document finance processes, approval workflows, and internal controls
Automate recurring work where it makes sense
Minimum Qualifications
What You Need:
CPA license
Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related field
4 to 6 years of hands-on accounting experience, including at least 2 years running a full monthly close independently
Current working knowledge of Philippine taxation: VAT, withholding, income tax, annual filings
Hands-on experience with eBIRForms, eFPS, and BIR validation modules
Able to prepare accurate monthly, YTD, and full-year financial statements on a tight turnaround
Strong Excel or Google Sheets
Real attention to detail
Nice To Have
Startup, or other fast-moving environment where you ran the books with little supervision
Experience preparing financials used in fundraising, due diligence, or investor reporting
QuickBooks Online or similar cloud accounting software
Exposure to cross-border transactions or multi-entity bookkeeping, useful as Moongig expands
Comfortable using AI tools such as Claude Cowork to speed up recurring work: drafting memos, reviewing reconciliations, documentation
How We Work
You deliver on time, and you say so early when you can't
You are organized and methodical
You are comfortable working independently while things are still being figured out
You ask when something is unclear instead of guessing
