Job Description
The Clinical Informatics Specialist will partner with hospital leadership and clinical teams to analyze, design, and optimize EHR clinical workflows that improve operational performance and patient care delivery. This role involves working directly with senior-level clients to solve complex hospital operational problems, with a focus on laboratory and radiology workflows. This position serves as a bridge between clinical operations and technology, translating clinical needs into actionable IT solutions. This role also supports the Healthcare IT team with system optimization, training, and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a trusted advisor to C-suite executives, medical directors, department heads, and clinical operations leaders at hospital client sites, leading discovery sessions and recommending technology-enabled solutions.
Analyze current-state clinical workflows across the hospital with a focus on EHR-driven processes, identifying inefficiencies, gaps, and risks, and designing optimized future-state workflows.
Work within major EHR platforms (e.g., Epic, Cerner/Oracle Health, Meditech, athenahealth) to evaluate, recommend, and support workflow configurations in collaboration with EHR analysts and technical teams.
Serve as the subject matter expert for laboratory (LIS) and radiology (RIS/PACS) information systems and their integration with the EHR, advising on order entry, result reporting, imaging workflow, and diagnostic turnaround time improvement.
Diagnose root causes of hospital operational issues—including throughput bottlenecks, reporting gaps, and communication breakdowns between departments—and design technology-informed solutions.
Act as the liaison between clinical stakeholders, IT engineering, MSP service delivery teams, and third-party vendors, ensuring alignment on project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
Produce high-quality deliverables including workflow diagrams, gap analyses, business cases, presentation decks, and project roadmaps for client leadership.
Support client organizations through change management by developing training materials, conducting workflow walkthroughs, and facilitating user adoption of new or optimized systems.
Stay current on healthcare IT trends, regulatory changes and emerging technologies, contributing to internal knowledge bases and mentoring junior team members.
Supporting, configuring, upgrading, maintaining, and implementing new and existing clinical applications and workflows.
Interface with client senior leadership to present findings, recommendations, and project updates.
Qualifications
Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Health Informatics, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
5+ years of experience in healthcare IT, clinical informatics, hospital operations, or a related role.

Deep experience with EHR clinical workflows (Epic, Cerner/Oracle Health, or comparable platform).
Proven track record of working with senior-level stakeholders (VP, CMO, CIO, department directors) to solve operational problems.
Strong understanding of hospital operations, including revenue cycle, patient flow, order management, clinical documentation, and care coordination.
Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills with the ability to translate complex technical and clinical concepts for diverse audiences.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of tools and expertise with Excel.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
Preferred Skills
Lab and/or Radiology domain expertise—experience with LIS, RIS, PACS, and the clinical workflows surrounding diagnostic testing and imaging.
Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, DICOM, and IHE profiles.
Familiarity with multiple electronic health records (EHRs) and healthcare data standards.
Experience in an MSP or consulting environment, managing multiple client engagements simultaneously.
