Your Role

As a Legal Transcription Editor, You Will

  • Edit and correct rough transcripts automatically generated from audio recordings by listening closely to audio files to ensure total accuracy.
  • Execute transcript and formatting changes within an online editor where the text is fully synced to the audio.
  • Identify speakers and insert the correct speaker names throughout transcripts.
  • Format and supplement transcripts into standard legal transcript style, including Q&A reformatting, by-lines, examination headings, and parentheticals for exhibits or recesses.
  • Conduct targeted research to verify the spelling of proper nouns, technical terms, medical jargon, or legal terminology as needed.
  • Ensure strict accuracy in grammar, punctuation, and overall transcript quality.

What You Need

Non-Negotiables

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in court or legal transcription as a Scopist, Transcriber, or Proofreader.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong command of grammar and punctuation.
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and modern transcription/editing tools.
  • High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and sound independent judgment.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, manage tight deadlines, and maintain confidentiality in a professional environment.
  • Willingness to complete a practical screening assessment involving the scoping and correction of a sample transcript to full accuracy.

Preferred Skills/Expertise

  • Strong research skills to quickly verify complex technical, medical, or legal terminology.
  • Excellent organizational skills with experience managing transcription workloads based on audio-hour volume.
