Job Description

Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

The Finance Business Services PMO supports a global change programme across Finance Business Services, contributing to the wider Global Finance strategy. Working with the Group Head of Finance Programmes, you will support Finance Business Services owners to deliver strategic change initiatives impacting finance systems, processes and ways of working across Finance Business Services and the wider business.

The Opportunity

The Business Analyst supports finance change initiatives by capturing, documenting and validating business processes and requirements across finance operations, systems and data. The role applies structured analysis to understand current and future state processes, identify opportunities for improvement and support the design and delivery of effective solutions.

You will work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), Project Managers and delivery partners to ensure requirements are clear, testable and aligned to agreed scope and governance.

The role includes exposure to payroll processes and requirements, alongside broader finance functions, contributing to the consistent delivery of change initiatives within a complex, global environment.

Role

The role is delivery-focused, operating within established Finance PMO frameworks, under the direction of a Project Manager and transformation leads. You will support Finance Business Services in the delivery of global finance systems and process-related projects, including:

  • Capture and document business processes, including payroll and wider finance processes, covering current-state and agreed future-state scenarios.
  • Elicit and document business and system requirements using agreed standards (e.g., process maps, functional requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria).
  • Identify process gaps, risks and dependencies, escalating where clarification or decisions are required.
  • Document payroll system and integration requirements, including interfaces with HR and Finance systems (e.g., General Ledger, Treasury, and banking files).
  • Support data-related activities such as analysis, migration preparation, reconciliation and validation.
  • Prepare test scenarios, test data and expected results aligned to business and system requirements (including payroll where relevant).
  • Support business-led testing, including UAT coordination, defect logging, and tracking to resolution.
  • Maintain requirements traceability to support solution design, testing and assurance.
  • Support and facilitate workshops and working sessions with Finance SMEs (including Payroll), capturing outputs, decisions and actions.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Payroll SMEs and delivery teams, following agreed governance and delivery processes.
  • Support prioritisation by ensuring clarity on functional and non-functional requirements, and by working with the project team to plan and sequence analysis activities.
  • Contribute practical suggestions to support improvements in payroll process or system design.
  • Support change initiatives such as process re-engineering for system configurations and software upgrades.
  • Work with business owners to identify and correct poorly structured or inaccurate data flows and related processes.
  • Undertake any other related activities that support the global payroll transformation.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working as a Business Analyst on finance-related initiatives (e.g operational payroll, system implementation or process improvement).
  • Ability to produce clear analysis artefacts, including process maps, requirements documentation and test materials.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into clear, actionable insights.
  • Experience working in global or multi-country project delivery environments, taking direction from a Project Manager and/or transformation lead.
  • Experience supporting workshops and working sessions with Payroll SMEs and stakeholders.
  • Ability to engage stakeholders confidently across different levels
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience with workflow analysis and process modelling techniques.
  • Experience interpreting payroll and finance transactional data to support analysis activities such as reconciliations, data mapping and validation in complex systems environments.
  • Awareness of change management considerations, including supporting training materials and communications where required.
  • Able to work collaboratively across multiple teams globally and manage competing priorities in a delivery-focused environment.
