Role overview:

This role exists within the Global Finance Change team, with responsibility for designing and maintaining scalable data infrastructure, enabling high-quality analytics and reporting across global finance operations. You will collaborate closely with finance, IT, HR, risk, and broking teams to ensure data is accessible, reliable, and actionable. The aim is to drive fintech projects across finance forward in support of finance goals to automate processes, increase efficiency, reduce risks and to establish reporting that supports greater insight and control.

Role Responsibilities:

The Finance Data Analytics Engineer will support the design and delivery of the Finance transformation strategy, focusing on data pipeline development, data modelling, data governance & security, process automation and dynamic reporting developments, using a variety of formal systems and Fintech tools. Principally a change focussed role, with a drive to replace current manual processes and reporting with automated Fintech solutions build off scalable data infrastructure and products.

You will also manage relationships with stakeholders (including all project contributors) across the various business units. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must. Due to the nature of the role, good business analysis skills and prior experience working in a change management function are essential.

Key responsibilities include;

  • Write and optimize SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis and integration with other cloud platforms and data sources.
  • Design and maintain scalable data pipelines using advanced SQL techniques to support reporting, analytics, and forecasting needs.
  • Manage and optimise the enterprise Snowflake environment, including data ingestion, transformation, performance tuning and analyse large datasets.
  • Develop and maintain data models, products and views in Snowflake to support self-service analytics and BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Qlik Sense).
  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Qlik Sense and Power BI.
  • Ensure data security and governance within Qlik and Power BI environments, including access control and compliance.
  • Collaborate with Finance and cross-functional teams to support stage gate processes with data-driven insights.
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Continuously improve data quality, integrity, and accessibility across platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience working on Finance projects, including financial reporting and analysis with history of high project velocity.
  • Apply basic knowledge of predictive analytics techniques (e.g. regression, clustering, time series forecasting) to support forward-looking analysis.
  • Explore and recommend emerging technologies and techniques to support/enhance BI/MI/AI landscape components.
  • Maintain any reference data which enriches the MI data provided to the business and identify opportunities to minimise that locally maintained data in favour of using corporate or external reference data where possible.
  • Analyse system data to identify data quality issues and propose ways to cleanse, normalise, or prevent bad data from entering source systems and/or data warehouse.
  • Work on diverse data, reporting and process improvement projects across the business, including data visualisation, ETL development, business controls and regulatory reporting.
  • Understand the varying levels of client / audience, identify key reporting needs and pain points; then lead efforts from concept to final deliverable. This will require active & collaborative stakeholder management.
  • Take the lead in the maintenance of project lists detailing out all projects currently being considered by finance and progress made. Manage project delivery according to TPICAP project methodology, policies and standards taking the lead in key projects.
  • Develop, monitor and execute a comprehensive communications plan during the entire life-cycle of the project.
  • Manage all own project documentation and support others in finance with their documentation
  • Provide training on tools and systems where required.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Experience / Competences / Knowledge & Understanding

Knowledge

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Subject matter expert in areas related to Finance, Business Intelligence and Data Analytics Engineering
  • Role relevant qualification, certification or accreditation desirable.
  • Strong technical grounding, ideally with some programming skills
  • Extremely passionate about data and analytics
  • Understanding of database and data modelling concepts

Preferred experience:

  • Proven experience with QlikSense, Snowflake and Power BI (development, administration, and security).
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and relational databases.
  • Familiarity with data cataloguing tools (e.g., Alation).
  • Advanced SQL proficiency, including complex joins, CTEs, and performance optimisation.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake, including data warehousing concepts, role-based access control, and query performance tuning.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and experience implementing security and compliance protocols.
  • Familiarity with conceptual, logical, physical data models and Entity Relationship Modelling.
  • Familiarity with Dimensional modelling (star/snowflake schemas) including normalisation and denormalisation techniques.
  • Experience handling security and access management in BI tools, ensuring compliance with data governance policies.
  • Demonstrated experience working on Finance projects, including financial reporting and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience working within both stage gate and agile processes.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication at a senior stakeholder level.
  • Relevant, appropriate and demonstratable experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in project management software tools (JIRA).
  • Strong experience in a project role with proven project delivery track record including taking the lead on key projects.
  • Experience of working in a fast-moving environment where priorities and scope are subject to change.
  • Process analysis, design and engineering experience.
  • Ability to understand and translate complex business requirements.

Desirable experience:

  • Technical finance and regulatory exposure or knowledge desirable
  • Experience working on projects related to Oracle, Concur or OneStream desirable
  • Proficiency working with APIs
