Country Head

Formative Search is partnering with a well-capitalised, technology-led renewable energy fund entering the Philippines to build and scale a solar and battery energy storage (BESS) focused business. Backed by a long-term investment horizon and committed, the platform is designed for scale, speed, and disciplined execution.

This is a founding leadership role as the Country Head will be responsible for establishing and growing the Philippines platform end-to-end, shaping strategy, originating and executing projects, building partnerships, and deploying capital across solar and storage assets. The role combines country leadership, business development, investment oversight, and execution accountability.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the Philippines strategy aligned with global objectives, with a clear focus on utility-scale solar, C&I solar, and BESS.
• Translate a multi-year USD 200m investment mandate into a high-quality, bankable development and acquisition pipeline.
• Lead origination across greenfield and brownfield opportunities.
• Structure and secure PPAs, JVs, and strategic partnerships with corporates, utilities, landowners, developers, and counterparties.
• Identify M&A and partnership opportunities that accelerate scale.
• Lead negotiation and closure of major commercial, financing, and shareholder agreements.
• Own investment cases through IC, FID, and capital deployment.
• Provide senior oversight across development, permitting, grid connection, financing, construction, and operations.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to bankable standards.
• Build strong relationships with government bodies, regulators, system operators, lenders, and industry participants.
• Navigate the Philippine regulatory and policy environment with credibility and foresight.
• Own country P&L, budgeting, and financial reporting.
• Build and lead a high-performing local team aligned with a lean, high-ownership operating model.
• Represent the platform at industry forums, investor discussions, and strategic engagements.
• Establish a credible, long-term market presence in the Philippines.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Energy, or related discipline; MBA or Master’s preferred.
• 10+ years’ experience in renewable energy, with strong exposure to solar and/or BESS in Southeast Asia.
• Demonstrated experience building and scaling platforms, not just managing individual projects.
• Strong commercial capability across PPAs, project finance, JVs, M&A, and investor engagement.
• Deep understanding of the Philippines power market, regulatory framework, and grid dynamics.
• Entrepreneurial, capital-aware, and comfortable operating in ambiguity.
• A leader with execution bias, strategic clarity, and the ability to build trust across stakeholders.
