About The Role
The Assistant Director of People & Culture plays a key leadership role in supporting the Director of People & Culture in building a high‑performing, values‑driven culture at Mandarin Oriental, Makati. This role is instrumental during the pre‑opening phase, helping to establish people strategies, policies, and practices that align with Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service culture and long‑term vision.
The successful candidate will act as a trusted partner to leaders and colleagues, championing colleague engagement, operational excellence, and compliance while nurturing a positive, inclusive, and high‑performance workplace.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Leadership Support
Partner closely with the Director of People & Culture in executing the overall People & Culture strategy for the hotel
Support the development and implementation of pre‑opening HR frameworks, policies, procedures, and systems
Act as a role model for Mandarin Oriental’s values, behaviors, and service culture
Provide guidance and support to department leaders on people‑related matters
Recruitment & Pre‑Opening Readiness
Support end‑to‑end recruitment activities, including workforce planning, talent sourcing, interviews, and selection
Coordinate mass recruitment initiatives, assessment activities, and onboarding programs
Ensure all colleagues are hired, onboarded, and trained in accordance with brand standards and opening timelines
Maintain accurate recruitment and employee records in compliance with company and legal requirements
Colleague Engagement & Culture
Champion colleague engagement initiatives that foster a positive, inclusive, and high‑performance culture
Support the rollout of Mandarin Oriental brand orientation, values immersion, and culture‑building programs
Assist in organizing colleague activities, recognition programs, and engagement events
Act as a point of contact for colleague concerns, ensuring fair, consistent, and timely resolution
Learning, Development & Performance
Support learning and development initiatives in partnership with department heads and corporate resources
Assist in the implementation of performance management processes, including goal setting, appraisals, and feedback
Help identify development needs and support succession planning initiatives
Employee Relations & Compliance
Assist in managing employee relations matters, including disciplinary processes and grievance handling, in line with company policy and local labor laws
Ensure compliance with Philippine labor regulations and Mandarin Oriental policies
Support audits, reporting, and documentation related to People & Culture operations
HR Operations & Administration
Oversee day‑to‑day People & Culture operations, ensuring efficiency and accuracy
Support payroll coordination, benefits administration, and HR reporting
Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR systems
Prepare reports, presentations, and analysis for management and corporate requirements
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or related field
Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in Human Resources / People & Culture, preferably in luxury hospitality
Prior pre‑opening experience is highly advantageous
Strong knowledge of Philippine labor laws and HR best practices
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills
High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
Hands‑on, proactive, and solutions‑oriented mindset
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR systems
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving pre‑opening environment
