About This Role
The Accountant I is responsible for providing accounting and financial reporting services to the host Country Office in accordance with ChildFund Policies and Procedures, US GAAP, as well as local GAAP/IFRS. This role ensures full compliance with applicable statutory and tax requirements, facilitates internal and external audits, and delivers accurate financial reports for analysis and donor reporting. Additionally, the post holder serves as the Global Shared Services (GSS) liaison to the Country Office for all financial accounting and reporting matters.
Required Experience And Education
Associate’s / Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience; Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) certification preferred.
Minimum of 4 years of progressive work experience in general accounting, financial reporting, and legal/statutory compliance.
Deep mastery of accounting and finance techniques, international accounting standards (US GAAP/IFRS), and financial regulations governing non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Demonstrated experience in managing tax compliance, payroll allocations, cash flow management, and supporting external/internal audit processes.
Primary Responsibilities
General Accounting and Bookkeeping: Ensure all financial transactions have appropriate supporting documentation in compliance with ChildFund policies, donor terms, and sound internal controls. Ensure accurate entry of fund transfers, Check Vouchers, Journal Vouchers, and accounts payable entries. Oversee timely payment processing to suppliers, partners, employees, and third parties. Correctly classify local contributions and sponsorships, ensure accurate payroll allocations across grants/cost centers, process depreciation and amortization entries, and maintain Country Office asset registers through annual counts and reconciliations.
Cash Flow and Bank Account Management: Reconcile all bank account balances with book balances on a regular basis. Ensure the Country Office maintains adequate liquidity to execute operational and program activities. Liaise with the International Office (IO) and banking partners regarding bank account opening, maintenance, closure, and relationship management.
Financial Statutory & Tax Compliance: Ensure financial transactions and reports comply with ChildFund accounting policies, US GAAP, and local GAAP/IFRS. Ensure required withholding taxes, social security, and employee benefits are recognized and remitted on time. Maintain compliance with local registration and statutory corporate filing requirements.
Audit Support: Support coordination of annual external and internal audit implementations, prepare required documentation/schedules, and support the resolution and implementation of audit corrective measures.
Safeguarding: Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the Child Safeguarding and Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH) policies and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding and PSEAH Policies.

Other Required Competencies
Strong understanding of US GAAP, local GAAP/IFRS, internal controls, segregation of duties, and statutory tax compliance for non-profit/NGO entities.
High proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office products (Advanced Excel, Word, Outlook).
Demonstrated ability to manage interpersonal relationships and work effectively in a multicultural, multiethnic, and diverse work environment.
Self-guided with strong organizational, time management, and planning skills; ability to work independently, remotely, under pressure, and meet strict deadlines.
Proactive learning orientation with the capability to stay updated on statutory and regulatory policy changes.
