Director Data Engineering

We are looking for an IT Service Delivery Director (Data) to join our Global Technology team at MGS. In this role, you will lead leaders and provide strategic direction for the full data organization – including Data Engineering, Quality Engineering, Data Platform, Data Governance, and Data Management, ensuring teams are positioned to deliver business outcomes, strengthen operational capability, provide trusted and well-governed data services, and meet service level commitments across Manulife segments.

Position Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership for the Data organization in MGS, including Data Engineering, Quality Engineering, Data Platform, Data Governance, and Data Management teams, ensuring alignment with Global Technology and business objectives.
• Partner with onshore leaders to provide input to the Data Platform strategy and service model, translate the agreed roadmap into executable plans, and oversee delivery across data teams.
• Drive continuous improvement across data capabilities through automation, cloud adoption, platform modernization, engineering excellence, and disciplined operating practices.
• Build and develop a high-performing, multidisciplinary organization through workforce planning, talent development, succession planning, communities of practice, and knowledge management.
• Lead governance, resource and capacity planning, budget management, and operational performance across the Data organization.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong working knowledge of enterprise data platforms, data integration, quality and data engineering, and data governance, with the ability to provide effective oversight across these disciplines.
• Extensive experience leading leaders and multidisciplinary data teams, with direct accountability for capabilities such as Data Engineering, Quality Engineering, Data Platform, Data Governance, Data Management, or closely related disciplines.
• Demonstrated experience translating globally defined strategies and roadmaps into executable plans, and overseeing delivery, governance, workforce planning, budget, risk, controls, and operational performance across multiple teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and executive communication skills, with the ability to influence across business, technology, and governance functions.
• Experience supporting global teams and collaborating with geographically distributed stakeholders.
• Amenable to work in a hybrid set-up (3x onsite per week)
• Amenable to any assigned shift schedule (preferably mid shift)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure data services and capabilities, such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage, etc., including their use in data integration, analytics, governance, security, monitoring, and cost management.
• Experience leading data modernization, cloud migration, governance transformation, or large-scale platform programs.
• Experience within financial services, insurance, or other highly regulated industry.
