Chapter Lead

ABOUT THE COMPANY
EROAD is a global fleet management technology company, publicly listed on both the NZX and ASX, providing telematics-based tracking, compliance and safety solutions to fleet operators. As part of continued growth across its Manila operation, it is hiring a Chapter Lead to bring together technical and people leadership for its embedded Java engineering community.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
This role gives you ownership of both the technical bar and the people who deliver against it.

• Act as the technical authority on Java and Spring Boot architecture across squads in Manila
• Lead and coach Tech Leads and engineers through design, implementation, review and delivery
• Set and continuously improve engineering standards across a chapter or community of practice
• Drive disciplined, repeatable practices for AI-assisted engineering, including review expectations and context management
• Spot AI-generated code failure modes early and put guardrails in place before they become quality, security or operational risk
• Work closely with product, architecture, delivery and operations stakeholders as part of a SaaS engineering environment
• Take part in an on-call rotation, compensated per company policy

WHAT YOU NEED

We are looking for strong hands-on essentials plus genuine curiosity about the rest.

• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs and cloud-native backend services
• Experience with automated testing practices
• Experience leading or coaching engineers through design, implementation, review and delivery
• Experience setting or improving engineering standards across squads or a community of practice
• Genuine hands-on experience with AI coding tools in real engineering work, including review expectations, context management and safe adoption practices
• Ability to recognise AI-generated code failure modes before they create quality, security or operational risk
• Experience working with product, architecture, delivery and operations stakeholders in a SaaS or product engineering environment
• AWS experience is a plus, particularly with Java or Spring services, event-driven systems, queues and streams
