The IT Officer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and smooth operation of the company’s IT infrastructure, with a primary focus on network administration, technical support, hardware/software management, and user assistance.
The role will serve as the first point of contact for employees experiencing IT-related issues and will proactively maintain the company’s network, systems, devices, and connectivity to ensure uninterrupted business operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Network Administration
Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot the company’s LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, internet connectivity, and network infrastructure.
Configure and maintain routers, switches, access points, firewalls, and other network devices.
Manage network access, IP addressing, user connectivity, and basic network security.
Monitor network performance and identify potential connectivity or performance issues.
Coordinate with internet service providers and third-party IT vendors for connectivity and network-related concerns.
Maintain updated network documentation, configurations, and IT infrastructure records.
Assist in implementing network security measures and access controls.
2. Technical Support / Helpdesk
Provide first-level technical support to employees for hardware, software, network, and connectivity concerns.
Diagnose and resolve technical issues involving computers, laptops, printers, mobile devices, peripherals, and other IT equipment.
Assist employees with software installation, configuration, updates, and troubleshooting.
Provide support for email, Microsoft 365, collaboration tools, and other company applications.
Respond to IT support requests promptly and ensure issues are properly documented and resolved.
Escalate complex technical issues to external providers or senior IT personnel when necessary.
Conduct basic user orientation and provide guidance on proper use of IT systems and equipment.
3. Hardware and Software Management
Set up and configure computers, laptops, printers, and other IT equipment for new and existing employees.
Maintain an updated inventory of IT assets and equipment.
Monitor the condition and performance of IT hardware and recommend repair, replacement, or upgrades when necessary.
Install and maintain approved software, applications, antivirus, and security updates.
Ensure that company devices are properly configured and secured.
4. IT Security and Access Management
Assist in maintaining the security of the company’s network, systems, and devices.
Manage user access, passwords, permissions, and account provisioning in accordance with company policies.
Monitor and report potential security threats, unauthorized access, malware, or other IT security incidents.
Ensure that security patches, antivirus software, and system updates are regularly implemented.
Promote IT security awareness and proper technology usage among employees.
5. IT Operations and Maintenance
Conduct regular preventive maintenance of IT equipment and network infrastructure.
Monitor system and network availability to minimize downtime.
Assist in backup, recovery, and business continuity procedures.
Maintain proper documentation of IT issues, resolutions, configurations, and maintenance activities.
Coordinate with management and external IT providers for major IT projects and infrastructure improvements.
6. IT Projects and Continuous Improvement
Assist in the implementation and rollout of new IT systems, applications, hardware, and network infrastructure.
Evaluate recurring IT issues and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
Support the implementation of IT policies, procedures, and standards.
Stay updated on relevant IT technologies, tools, and best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
At least 2–3 years of experience in IT support, network administration, or a similar role.
Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals, LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, and basic firewall configuration.
Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, network, and connectivity issues.
Familiarity with routers, switches, access points, and other network devices.
Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows operating systems, and common business applications.
Experience with IT asset management and technical documentation.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Good communication and customer-service skills.
Ability to work independently and respond effectively to urgent technical concerns.
Preferred Skills / Certifications
CompTIA A+, Network+, CCNA, Microsoft, or equivalent IT certifications are an advantage.
Experience with network monitoring and ticketing/helpdesk systems.
Basic knowledge of cybersecurity and endpoint security.
Experience working with multiple offices, branches, or remote users is a plus.
