POSITION SUMMARY

The Lead Instructional Designer serves as a seasoned individual contributor responsible for leading the instructional design strategy and execution of complex learning initiatives that support organizational priorities across Human Resources, Legal, Compliance, Finance, Product Management, New Product Development and Introduction, Services, Sales, and Operations. This role collaborates with senior stakeholders, business leaders, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to identify business needs, recommend learning strategies, and develop scalable learning solutions aligned to performance outcomes.

 

Working with a high degree of independence, the Lead Instructional Designer leads complex projects of large scope and has a business impact. This role develops innovative learning solutions, influences stakeholders on instructional strategy and delivery approaches, and provides expert guidance throughout the learning lifecycle. The Lead Instructional Designer serves as a trusted consultant, mentor, and point of contact for instructional design initiatives while helping establish best practices, support quality standards, and scalable development processes across the organization.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the instructional design strategy and execution for complex, high-visibility learning initiatives using the Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate methodology.
  • Consult with business leaders, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to define learning strategies aligned to organizational goals and performance outcomes.
  • Conduct advanced learners, needs, task, and topic analyses to identify root performance challenges and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Define learning architectures, learning pathways, instructional strategies, evaluation approaches, and technology recommendations for complex programs.
  • Design and develop sophisticated learning solutions including eLearning, simulations, videos, instructor-led training, virtual instructor-led training, assessments, and performance support tools.
  • Lead projects involving multiple stakeholders, complex requirements, competing priorities, and significant organizational impact.
  • Provide strategic guidance and consultation to stakeholders regarding learning methodologies, instructional approaches, scope, risks, and resource requirements.
  • Influence decision-making through effective communication, stakeholder management, and instructional design expertise.
  • Develop innovative and precedent-setting solutions to address challenging learning and performance needs.
  • Establish and promote best practices, standards, templates, and quality assurance processes across instructional design projects.
  • Analyze learning metrics, assessment data, and evaluation results to recommend continuous improvement initiatives and demonstrate training effectiveness.
  • Mentor and coach instructional designers and contribute to onboarding, professional development, and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Serve as a point of contact and trusted resource for the instructional design team when leadership support is needed.
  • Contribute to department-level process improvements, strategic initiatives, and operational effectiveness efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Instructional Design, Education, Adult Learning, Communications, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of seven years of progressive instructional design, learning and development, training, or related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex learning initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and enterprise-level business impact.
  • Expert knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, learning strategy, evaluation methods, and performance consulting.
  • Extensive experience developing learning solutions for both technical and non-technical business functions.
  • Advanced stakeholder relationship management and consulting skills, including experience influencing business decisions and driving alignment across cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex projects from analysis through implementation and evaluation.
  • Advanced proficiency with instructional design and multimedia development tools such as Articulate Rise, Articulate Storyline, Vyond, Camtasia, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar technologies.
  • Strong project leadership, facilitation, communication, technical writing, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Experience supporting global learning initiatives and localization-ready content.
  • Professional certifications such as CPTD, ATD, PMP, Certified Instructional Designer, or similar certifications preferred.
