As part of OpenText’s Finance organization, the Senior Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting. This position is responsible for performing a broad range of accounting activities, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analyses, and close-related deliverables. The Senior Accountant works independently to support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements, assists with audit and compliance activities, and helps strengthen financial processes and controls. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, sound professional judgment, and a continuous improvement mindset.
You Are Great At
Preparing and recording journal entries, estimates, and accruals in accordance with US GAAP and Company policies.
Managing month-end close responsibilities, including the completion of detailed balance sheet reconciliations.
Maintaining high-quality reconciliations that are accurate, thoroughly documented, and supported by timely resolution of outstanding items.
Analyzing financial results through month-over-month and quarter-over-quarter reviews of assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts and providing meaningful explanations for variances.
Researching and resolving accounting issues, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions.
Collaborating with business partners and stakeholders across multiple functions to support accurate accounting and reporting outcomes.
Executing internal control activities and supporting SOX compliance requirements through proper documentation and evidence retention.
Assisting with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, responding to inquiries, and facilitating information requests.
Driving enhancements to accounting processes, controls, workflows, and documentation to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Providing guidance and day-to-day support to team members through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Participating in special initiatives, including system implementations, business integrations, and process transformation projects.
What It Takes
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA designation (or progress toward completion) is preferred.
5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including strong knowledge of US GAAP.
Demonstrated experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and month-end close processes.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities with exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Self-motivated and capable of working independently while contributing to overall team success.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey financial information clearly and concisely.
Sound professional judgment and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
