As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll build the technology that keeps Blueberry running behind the scenes. From real-time trade processing and operational workflows to internal business platforms and reporting systems, your work will directly support the teams that keep the business moving every day.

This is an end-to-end engineering role for someone who enjoys solving complex backend challenges while still building polished user experiences. You'll own features from database design through APIs, background services, frontend applications, and deployment, collaborating closely with Operations, Finance, Support, and Engineering to deliver software that's reliable, scalable, and built to last. Because in production, "it works on my machine" is less of a victory and more of a warning label.

Note: At Blueberry, moving with purpose means showing up, connecting, and building momentum together. This role is based onsite in Sydney, Monday to Friday, where collaboration happens best.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Operate squad, where you'll design, build, and maintain the operational systems that power Blueberry's core business. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll develop scalable backend services, modern internal applications, and business-critical platforms that support real-time trade processing, operational workflows, and reporting.

How You'll Make an Impact Backend Engineering & Core Systems

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs supporting real-time trade processing and operational workflows.
• Develop reliable background services and long-running processes that handle high transaction volumes with resilience and accuracy.
• Design and optimise PostgreSQL databases, schema structures, and query performance to ensure data integrity and scalability.
• Build systems that prioritise correctness, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  
  
  

• Develop and enhance internal business applications and back-office portals using React and TypeScript.
• Deliver end-to-end features spanning database design, backend APIs, background processing, frontend development, and deployment.
• Build reporting capabilities and operational dashboards that provide timely, accurate business insights.
• Continuously improve internal tools that support Operations, Finance, and Support teams.
  
  
  

• Investigate and resolve production issues using logs, metrics, traces, and monitoring tools.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and reliability risks before they become business problems.
• Improve observability, monitoring, deployment practices, and platform resilience.
• Help ensure business-critical systems remain stable under production workloads.
  
  
  

• Write clean, maintainable, and thoroughly tested production code.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to raising engineering standards across the squad.
• Mentor fellow engineers through knowledge sharing and technical guidance.
• Partner closely with Operations, Finance, Product, and Support teams to build practical solutions that solve real business problems.
  
  
  

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong commercial experience in C#/.NET.
• Strong experience designing relational databases, schema modelling, database migrations, and PostgreSQL performance optimisation.
• Experience building asynchronous or event-driven systems using queues, streams, or workflow engines.
• Commercial experience developing modern frontend applications using React, Vue, Angular, or similar frameworks.
• Experience building and supporting cloud-based applications, deployment pipelines, and production infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including testing, debugging, version control, and system design.
• Experience delivering end-to-end software solutions across backend, frontend, databases, and deployment.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot production issues using logs, monitoring, tracing, and observability tools.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
• Comfortable taking ownership, navigating ambiguity, and delivering practical solutions to complex business challenges.
  
  
  

• Experience within fintech, financial services, trading platforms, or other regulated industries.
• Strong understanding of reconciliation, audit trails, idempotency, event consistency, and data correctness.
• Experience building internal operational platforms, business systems, or back-office applications.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, workflow orchestration, and event-driven architecture.
• Experience supporting high-volume transaction processing systems.
