The Grid Integration Manager will oversee all technical and regulatory aspects of project grid interconnection, ensuring that renewable energy facilities are designed, constructed, and commissioned in full compliance with NGCP, MERALCO, DU/EC, and WESM requirements.
The role focuses on EPC design reviews, grid compliance, and the processing of interconnection and market registration requirements, including ERC Point-to-Point (P2P) applications, NGCP/DU/EC energization requirements including but not limited to PCATC, CTE, FCATC, and acquisition of WESM registration approval.
The position requires strong technical grounding in substation and transmission line design, a solid grasp of PGC/PDC, DOE and ERC regulatory requirements, and WESM Rules, and the ability to coordinate with NGCP, DU/EC, ERC, DOE, and IEMOP.
Key Responsibilities
Grid Design and Technical Oversight
Lead technical reviews of EPC design packages for substations, transmission lines, and interconnection facilities to ensure compliance with NGCP, MERALCO, and PGC/PDC standards.
Review and validate single-line diagrams (SLDs), AC/DC schematics, protection and control schemes, equipment layouts, and technical data sheets.
Evaluate proposed grid designs for technical soundness, constructability, and cost-effectiveness.
Coordinate with the Owner’s Engineer (OE) and EPC contractor during design development, testing, and implementation to ensure conformity with project and interconnection requirements.
Regulatory and Compliance Management
Manage and oversee the processing of ERC P2P applications and other interconnection-related regulatory filings.
Coordinate with NGCP/DU/EC to secure PCATC, CTE, and FCATC.
Facilitate and monitor WESM registration, DOE COE-GET for GEA projects, including coordination with IEMOP and DOE, ensuring all technical and documentary requirements are completed prior to market participation.
Track approval timelines and proactively address issues that may affect project testing, commissioning, or commercial operations.
Project Coordination and Interface
Act as the technical liaison between the company, EPC contractor, and utility counterparts (NGCP/DU/EC) on interconnection-related activities.
Coordinate interface points, technical deliverables, and scheduling of works related to energization and testing.
Participate in technical meetings, site inspections, and joint reviews to resolve design or implementation issues affecting grid integration.
Support internal teams (technical, permitting, and commercial) in developing interconnection strategies and documentation for project financing and compliance.
Standards, Quality, and Continuous Improvement
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NGCP and DU/EC technical standards, ERC/DOE regulatory frameworks, and WESM operational and metering requirements.
Ensure all grid integration activities comply with the Philippine Grid Code, Distribution Code, WESM Rules, and relevant international standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC).
Provide input to internal engineering standards, design templates, and process improvements based on project learnings.
Pre-requisites
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Registered Electrical Engineer required).
8–12 years of relevant experience in grid interconnection, substation/transmission line design, or power system integration.
Strong technical understanding of NGCP and DU/EC interconnection processes, including PCATC, CTE, and FCATC requirements.
Proven experience in EPC design review for substation and transmission line projects.
Familiarity with ERC, DOE, and WESM regulatory and market registration processes.
Knowledgeable in interpreting SLDs, protection schemes, and engineering design drawings.
Excellent coordination, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Willingness to conduct site visits and interface directly with utility representatives and contractors.
Experience with 500 kV substations and transmission lines is a strong advantage.
