Höegh Autoliners is a global player in Ro/Ro deep sea transportation services and operates the greenest fleet in this segment. The company owns and operates approx. 40 Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) in global trade systems, making around 3 000 port calls yearly. Managed from a worldwide network of around 16 offices, our main customers are major manufacturers of new cars, heavy machinery and other rolling stock. We are working towards a goal of zero emissions by 2040 and have an exciting roadmap to achieve this.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly skilled and passionate IT Back-End Developer to support the development and maintenance of enterprise-level applications. In this role, you will design and implement robust server-side logic, optimize system performance, and contribute to RESTful API development using Java Spring Boot. Your expertise in server-side technologies, data persistence, and clean code practices will directly support the reliability, scalability, and quality of our applications.

You will be an integral part of our Scrum team, working closely with front-end developers, QA engineers, product owners, and DevOps to deliver secure and scalable backend solutions.

Key Accountabilities:

• Work closely with business stakeholders and Business Analysts to translate technical and functional requirements into backend solutions.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to planning, estimation, retrospectives, and reviews.
• Ensure backend deliverables are integrated seamlessly into the full-stack architecture and are aligned with business priorities.
• Develop, enhance, and maintain RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Implement business logic and application workflows on the server side with attention to performance and scalability.
• Utilize Java Persistence API (JPA) for efficient database interaction and ORM practices.
• Integrate with front-end and external systems via APIs, ensuring accurate data exchange and processing
• Write and maintain unit tests using JUnit and support integration testing.
• Conduct thorough debugging and validation of server-side logic, identifying and resolving bugs before deployment.
• Support QA teams during functional and regression testing phases.
• Conduct performance profiling and optimization of backend components.
• Tune database queries and service execution for responsiveness and scalability.
• Follow DevOps practices by contributing to CI/CD pipelines, Git-based version control, and automated builds.
• Provide third-line support and resolution for application issues in production.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, manuals, and teaching materials for backend services

Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Java Developer with expertise in Java and Spring/Spring Boot
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative Scrum team.
• Strong understanding of Java Persistence API (JPA) and SQL for relational database management
• Experience with JQuery and JSP for dynamic server-side pages.
• Experience writing and maintaining unit tests using JUnit.
• Solid understanding of RESTful service design and message-based systems
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills

Desirable additional skills

• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (nice to have).
• Familiarity with Git for version control in collaborative development environments
• Proven experience in applying coding standards, clean architecture principles, and best practices
