Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry plays a crucial role in managing costs and ensuring the financial viability of construction projects. They are responsible for estimating, monitoring, and controlling costs throughout the project lifecycle, from inception to completion. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be engaged in cost planning, preparing tender documents, managing contracts, and consulting with various stakeholders such as architects, engineers, and contractors. You must possess a strong analytical mindset and excellent negotiation skills to ensure value for money while maintaining the required standards and quality. This role necessitates regular site visits to inspect project progress and collaborate with site managers, which requires good communication and interpersonal skills.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze costings for tenders and contracts within the construction sector.
  • Assist in establishing a client's requirements and undertake feasibility studies.
  • Perform risk and value management as well as cost control processes.
  • Advise on a procurement strategy that aligns with project goals and budget.
  • Identify, analyze, and develop responses to commercial risks inherent in construction projects.
  • Review and negotiate contract terms and conditions to ensure project compliance.
  • Manage variations to the project as it progresses and communicate budget implications.
  • Prepare cost reports and cash flow forecasts to ensure project financial visibility.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess project progress and verify contractor claims.
  • Collaborate and liaise with project managers, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain awareness of construction contracts and pertinent industry regulations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of cost estimates and financial assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in construction cost management or similar roles.
  • Proficient analytical skills with attention to detail and accurate data handling.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and forecasting costs accurately.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills to liaise with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with construction industry standards, contracts, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in construction-specific software and general office applications.
