Job Description

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer plays a crucial role in promoting a safe and secure atmosphere within an organization. Tasked with the implementation and monitoring of safety programs, this position is pivotal in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and fostering a culture of safety. They are responsible for identifying potential hazards, assessing risks, and implementing appropriate control measures. HSE Officers work closely with various departments to ensure robust safety protocols are upheld, and that all employees are trained in accordance with the latest health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess strong analytical skills, and be an effective communicator committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of all employees and stakeholders.


Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and review health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards in the workplace.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and prepare thorough reports.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, audits, and investigations.
  • Analyze safety performance data and identify areas for improvement and risk mitigation.
  • Coordinate with engineering and operational teams to integrate safety measures effectively.
  • Facilitate health and safety committee meetings and promote a safety-first culture.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and authorities on safety and compliance matters.
  • Participate in the development and execution of emergency response plans and drills.
  • Provide recommendations for corrective actions and monitor their implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar Health, Safety, and Environment role.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective employee training.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop and analyze safety data.
  • Certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
