The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is a pivotal role in the seamless operation of various industries reliant on large and complex machinery. This position demands a highly skilled individual dedicated to maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy machinery, such as bulldozers, cranes, forklifts, and other substantial industrial equipment. Individuals in this role are expected to understand intricate mechanical systems and have the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues swiftly, minimizing downtime. Adept at both preventative maintenance and complex repairs, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic works diligently to keep machinery functioning at optimal levels. The role not only requires technical expertise but also an eye for safety, ensuring all equipment meets industry standards and operates without posing any hazards. With a combination of fieldwork and shop repair, the position is both dynamic and rewarding, contributing directly to the efficiency and productivity of industrial operations.


Responsibilities

  • Perform regular maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment.
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts, ensuring all equipment operates safely.
  • Work with hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems to correct mechanical issues.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records for all machinery serviced.
  • Order replacement parts and keep well-organized inventory records in the shop.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals and schematics to understand equipment functionality.
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects effectively.
  • Follow safety procedures to prevent injuries when performing repairs or services.
  • Collaborate with other mechanics and team members to solve technical challenges.
  • Train and guide junior mechanics to enhance the team's overall skill level.
  • Provide feedback to improve equipment performance and reduce future breakdowns.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, with technical training preferred.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and computer systems to troubleshoot issues.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Ability to work in various settings, including outdoors and in confined spaces.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Certification from a recognized body, like ASE, is an added advantage.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, with a preference for a commercial license.
