The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for planning and conducting assignments with a high level of specialization and autonomy. This role involves solving complex engineering problems, modifying established guidelines, and applying mature engineering knowledge to improve design standards, reduce costs, and enhance work quality. The position requires effective collaboration with colleagues, clients, and external agencies.
This role is open to candidates currently residing in or interested in working from the London or St. Thomas area.

What You Will Do
- Plan and conduct complex engineering assignments with minimal supervision, applying extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering and its impact on other disciplines, as well as National and Provincial Building Codes, ASHRAE, NFPA, and other relevant codes and standards.
- Modify established guidelines and devise new approaches to meet project requirements. Apply existing criteria in innovative ways and draw conclusions from comparative situations.
- Develop and recommend improvements in design standards to lower costs and enhance work quality.
- Solve unique design and engineering issues through innovative approaches or criteria application.
- Initiate and develop guidelines and investigations for other team members to enhance problem-solving capabilities.
- Coordinate complex tasks, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate the work of engineers and designers.
- Manage mid-sized to large projects, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and performance objectives for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and control systems in various projects.
- Prepare progress reports, recommend design changes, estimate costs, and recommend payments for completed work.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and external agencies.
- Discuss design problems, explain design features and specifications, and outline project control criteria.
- Establish and maintain client contacts to seek or provide technical information related to projects.
- Communicate with clients to discuss project progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Mentor and support the technical and professional development of junior staff assigned to projects.
- Assist with various tasks and projects as assigned by supervisors or senior team members to support the overall success of the team and company objectives.
- Demonstrate a commitment to company values of quality, client focus, teamwork, sustainability, and community, integrating these principles into daily work practices and interactions with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
- Develop strong client relationships that lead to repeat work and organic business growth.
- Model effective leadership behaviors, including accountability, clear communication, and sound decision‑making.
- Demonstrate ability to train junior to intermediate engineers and designers.
- As client demand increases, manage a team of up to 8 mechanical engineering professionals.
- Participate in team planning, resourcing strategies, and hiring decisions for those in their team.
- Foster a collaborative team culture focused on quality, accountability, and professional development.
- Contribute to business growth by securing repeat work and new opportunities through strong technical delivery, client relationships, and reputation for excellence.
- Work regularly from the office alongside the project team to support collaboration, mentoring, and delivery excellence (with flexibility for hybrid work).
What You Bring to the Table
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or equivalent certification required.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in an engineering role, preferably within a consulting environment.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, design standards, and best practices.
- Proven ability to solve complex engineering problems using innovative approaches.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, colleagues, and external agencies.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering software and tools.
- Project management experience, with a demonstrated ability to manage mid-sized to large projects
