Job Overview

This role is focused on converting raw architectural and structural drawings into highly accurate material take-offs and detailed steel member schedules. You will act as the technical foundation of the estimating process—ensuring precision, completeness, and clarity so that the estimating team can confidently apply pricing and secure competitive commercial bids in the second-tier construction market.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed and comprehensive quantity take-offs for structural steel projects valued up to $1M
• Develop clear and structured steel member schedules covering all sections, plates, and fabrication components required for construction
• Interpret and analyze complex 2D and 3D architectural and structural drawings with high accuracy
• Identify missing details, inconsistencies, and design clashes, and prepare structured RFI (Request for Information) queries
• Input and encode all take-off data into estimating systems or Excel templates with 100% accuracy and consistency
• Ensure data integrity to support accurate costing and competitive bid preparation
  
  

• Minimum 5 years of dedicated experience in Structural Steel Estimating (general construction experience not sufficient)
• Strong ability to identify and differentiate Australian steel sections including UB, UC, PFC, EA, UA, SHS, RHS
• Solid understanding of steel grades including Grade 300 and Grade 350
• Expert proficiency in digital take-off tools such as Bluebeam Revu, Planswift, or equivalent platforms
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data organization and reporting
• Proven experience within the second-tier commercial construction market (e.g., offices, schools, warehouses, retail hubs)
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills for clear technical documentation and RFI preparation
