MULTI SKILLED OPERATIVE (BACKSHIFT) – Cross Green, Leeds

Looking for hands-on nightshift work where your skills really count?

If you enjoy working with heavy plant, keeping production moving, and being part of a tight‑knit operational team, this is a great opportunity to build your technical experience in a fast‑paced industrial environment. This role will suit someone practical, safety‑focused and motivated to develop their skills - with scope to grow into more senior operational or supervisory responsibilities over time.

You’ll be joining a high‑performing nightshift operation where teamwork, pride in the job and doing things the right way are essential.

Hours: 48 hours per week

Shift pattern: Monday to Friday, 5pm - 3am

Location: Cross Green Asphalt Plant, Leeds (easily accessible from Leeds and surrounding areas)

The Role

Reporting to the Nightshift Supervisor, the Multi Skilled Operative (Backshift) plays a key role in the production of asphalt and aggregates for the construction industry, while maintaining best‑in‑class Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards.

Key responsibilities include:

• Operating the onsite asphalt plant to produce a range of asphalt products
• Supporting plant efficiency and optimisation during evening/nightshift operations
• Working with aggregates and operating mobile plant machinery
• Carrying out day‑to‑day maintenance and maintaining excellent housekeeping standards
• Promoting a strong zero‑harm safety culture and behavioural safety
• Ensuring awareness and compliance with Health and Safety controls across site
  
  

About You

You’ll have experience working within an industrial, factory or production environment and enjoy being part of a multi‑skilled operational team. You take pride in a job well done, communicate well, and are keen to develop both technically and professionally.

You’ll also ideally have:

• Experience within quarrying, asphalt or a similar heavy industry (desirable)
• A flexible, team‑focused approach to work
• Self‑motivation and the ability to positively influence others
• Knowledge of risk assessments in a plant or operational environment
• Understanding of SSOW (HIRA) and permit systems (preferred, not essential)
• Good basic IT skills
• A Shovel Licence (desirable)
