Job Description
A failure analysis technician is responsible in providing failure analysis to support customer returns, qualifications, and other engineering evaluations. Collaboration with FA requestors and other cross-functional teams is also required. He/she must observe proper housekeeping, environmental, health, and safety protocols while doing his/her tasks.
Support customer returns, qualifications, and other engineering evaluations that require failure analysis.
Perform non-destructive analysis such as optical visual inspection, x-ray, and scanning acoustic microscopy.
Perform destructive analysis such as soldering/desoldering, lead conditioning, deballing/reballing, mechanical/chemical decapsulation, package/die level deprocessing, cross-sectioning, and other FA techniques available in the laboratory.
Conduct material analysis such as SEM/EDX, cross-sectioning, wire bond mechanical testing and other material analysis capabilities that the FA lab may acquire in the future.
Perform advance electrical verification using curve tracer and/or basic bench tools. Perform advance application board testing with guidance.
Perform advance visual/mechanical package level failure analysis with guidance.
Perform advance open/short and parametric full failure analysis with guidance.
Perform advance fault isolation with guidance.
Perform advance die level physical failure analysis procedures with guidance.
Provide first level analysis on functional or complex electrical rejects with guidance.
Generate failure analysis reports using MCHP on-line Failure Analysis databases and create presentation using Microsoft Office applications.
Work closely with FA engineer and customer to meet and improve the response time.
Interface and collaborate with other MCHP cross-functional groups most especially with Assembly, Reliability, Test Product, Quality Assurance, and customer support.
Meet and drive improvements on failure analysis key performance indicators.
May develop and implement new failure analysis methods if necessary.
Observe proper and responsible use of all FA laboratory equipment, hardwares, consumables, and workstations and report any problem encountered timely.
FA focal person responsible in tools/equipment 5S and improvements and coordination with FAREL Equipment group for consumables & spare parts procurements, repair, and maintenance.
Observe safety and health protocols and housekeeping during day-to-day failure analysis activities.
Attend trainings required for the job and by the MCHP company.
Supports and implements Environmental Management System (EMS) and Quality Management System (QMS).
Requirements/Qualifications
Education:
At least a graduate of technical/vocational course.
Working Experience
At least six (6) years work experience in FA or similar discipline.
Basic understanding of failure analysis flow.
Basic knowledge and skill in performing non-destructive and destructive FA techniques.
Basic knowledge and skill in operating failure analysis tools and equipment.
Basic knowledge of basic semiconductor Fab, Assembly and Test process flow.
Basic knowledge of chemical handling safety.
Knowledge in more advance electrical testing.
Advance skill in physical failure analysis techniques.
Other Requirements
No known allergy to chemicals.
Good vision and dexterity.
Computer literate (MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
Able to extract, analyze, and report data as necessary.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Good analytical skills, self-motivated, team player, and able to pro-actively communicate with others.
Can collaborate with cross-functional and cross-cultural teams
Ability to manage time and priorities effectively.
Can understand and follow more complex procedures and instructions.
