Job Description

The Didipio mine is located on Luzon Island in the Philippines and is the Company’s only asset that produces both gold and copper. Didipio was built by OceanaGold in 2013 and operates fully as underground mine, with over 800 employees that support the mine.

OceanaGold are seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and reliable Engineer - Geotechnical to maintain a safe standard for all personnel, infrastructure, and equipment on site by mitigating the potential outcomes of geotechnical-related hazards (rock fall, slope stability, inrush, subsidence etc.). Implement and maintain stringent geotechnical designs, systems, and procedures and identify business improvement through problem-solving, innovation, and technology.



As a member of the Geotechnical section, you may occasionally assist other sections to ensure that all major hazards are monitored, reporting is completed, procedures are followed, and information is communicated to the appropriate stakeholders.

The role will report to the Senior Engineer - Geotechnical.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Collect geotechnical data to investigate and characterize rock mass conditions and manage databases.
  • Interpret all available data (from logging, mapping, testing, and LiDAR scans) and develop geotechnical models
  • Identification of expected geotechnical hazards and appropriate controls
  • Geotechnical inspections of damage and deformation in surface and underground.
  • Collect and record monitoring data as per established monitoring protocols and procedures
  • Develop designs, calculations, and analysis for backfill (paste fill and cemented rock fill).
  • Validate and manage database for backfill
  • Support project teams by organizing meetings, documenting discussions, and tracking action items.

Qualifications

Educational Background:

  • Degree in Mining/Civil/Geotechnical Engineering/Geology

Work Experience and Background:

  • 1-2 years of experience in the mining industry as a geotechnical engineer

Specialization/License:

  • Driver’s License
  • Licensed Mining/Civil/Geotechnical Engineering/Geology

Knowledge:

  • Geotechnical engineering fundamentals, rock mechanics, and structural geology.
  • Risk management
  • Project management
  • Mining safety standards

Skills:

  • Troubleshooting
  • Root cause analysis
  • Strong time management skills and engineering aptitude
  • Effective Communications Skills
  • Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Deswik/Surpac, Rocscience software)

Abilities

  • Ability to use logic and intuition to make decisions or solve problems.
  • Ability to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities.
  • Ability to establish prevention and detection internal controls.
