Postdoctoral Position Available At Yale School Of Medicine Discovering Regulatory Elements Within The Human Virome

A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Carson Thoreen in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology at Yale School of Medicine. We are looking for an energetic and creative individual to help discover and characterize functional RNA elements within the human virome, the trillions of viruses that reside in the human body. This project builds on our recent study characterizing translation functions across human 5′ UTRs (Lewis et al., Molecular Cell, 2025. PMID: 39706187). Responsibilities will include computational mining of viral metagenomic databases, design and analysis of virus-derived RNA libraries, and development of machine learning models for detecting functional elements in viral metagenomic datasets. This project is a collaboration with the laboratory of Wendy Gilbert and will involve training and mentorship across both laboratories. Lab website: http://campuspress.yale.edu/thoreenlab.

Qualifications

PhD in Biology, Biochemistry or a related field.

Strong record of creative and productive research (publications, presentations).

Experience in molecular biology, RNA biochemistry, and bioinformatics is an asset.

Interest in participating in collaborative teams that span disciplines.

Salary
