Rangatahi Health Coach – Te Ara Waiora

Hao te Rangatahi is a Health Coach role based in the Te Ara Waiora clinic in Flaxmere.

The moemoeā of the role is to deliver health, social and cultural support for Rangatahi aged 10-24 years old. It is a service that is designed for our Rangatahi, by our Rangatahi, and will be Rangatahi led.

If you have seen the obstacles our young people face as they navigate the health system and want to help create change, this is the role for you.

We need people looking to make a difference, people who will awhi and whakamana our youth and their whānau. We need “people people” who listen and hear what our Rangatahi need.

In this role, you will act as a ‘navigator’ to help facilitate access and support to the needs of rangatahi to other health, social, cultural services for their holistic wellbeing needs. From hygiene, skin, fitness to sexual health and everything in between.

Every day will be as different as the relationships you will build. You might start your day supporting a whānau to achieve their cultural wellbeing goals, then support a Rangatahi to attend a medical appointment, and later you Tautoko a newly hapu wāhine to advocate for herself for the care that she needs. Every day is different, every day creating a difference.

Ko ngā mea ka hiahiatia e koe kia angitū te haere | What youll need to be successful:

• Be able to build rapport, trust and establish meaningful relationships with tamariki/rangatahi and their whānau
• Hold a tertiary qualification relating to education, health, mental health or social services
• Have experience working in the education, health, mental health or social services sectors
• Be comfortable working in the community meeting kanohi to kanohi
• Drive and initiative to go out and do group presentations or explore other opportunities to promote the service
• Be well connected to tamariki/rangatahi through already established networks and connections with young people
• Have a passion and ability to support tamariki/rangatahi by connecting them with appropriate youth friendly health, education, community or social services to achieve positive outcomes
• Be able to motivate, educate, empower, coach and influence whānau to make change
• Hold a current Full Driver’s License
