About the Role

Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), Malaysia’s leading transshipment hub, is seeking an accomplished and visionary leader to join our Project Integration Division as General Manager – Special Projects. This strategic role is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of large, complex, and high-value capital projects, typically exceeding RM100 million, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.


The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and strategic oversight to manage multidisciplinary teams, contractors, consultants, and government agencies while aligning project outcomes with PTP’s long-term business objectives.

  • Location: Gelang Patah, Johor, Malaysia

This position plays a critical role in delivering strategic infrastructure and engineering projects that support PTP’s growth and operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities

1. Project Delivery & Integration

  • Lead the planning, execution, and completion of large-scale capital projects in accordance with the PID project framework.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within approved scope, cost, time, quality, and safety parameters.
  • Oversee multidisciplinary teams and coordinate internal and external stakeholders.

2. Stakeholder & Communication Management

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, senior management, and external partners.
  • Liaise with consultants, contractors, and government authorities to ensure project alignment and approvals.
  • Ensure seamless communication and integration across functions.

3. Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce HSSE policies and promote a strong safety culture across all projects.
  • Ensure full compliance with legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
  • Align project execution with PTP standards and international best practices.

4. Time and Cost Control

  • Develop and manage project schedules and budgets.
  • Monitor performance against key milestones and implement corrective actions when required.
  • Ensure effective cost control and financial accountability.

5. Contract & Contractor Management

  • Oversee contracts, including FIDIC-based arrangements.
  • Manage claims, resolve disputes, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Evaluate contractor and consultant performance to ensure project success.

6. Risk Management

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks to avoid cost overruns or delays.
  • Develop and implement effective risk management strategies.
  • Ensure business continuity and project resilience.

7. Governance & Reporting

  • Provide timely and accurate project updates to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to governance frameworks and reporting standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation and audit readiness.

8. People Development & Leadership

  • Mentor and coach project teams to enhance technical and leadership capabilities.
  • Identify skill gaps and implement structured training and development programs.
  • Foster a high-performance and collaborative work environment.

Key Projects in Execution

  • Berth 0 Development – 360m berth and yard expansion north of PTP (High Value)
  • Design of Terminal Phase 3A (High Value)
  • Maintenance Dredging and Under-Deck Sedimentation Removal (High Risk)


Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • A Master’s Degree is an added advantage.

Professional Certifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification is required.
  • Additional certifications in contract or risk management are advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of experience managing large-scale industrial or infrastructure projects exceeding RM100 million.
  • Proven experience in leading complex capital projects within port, logistics, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
