Description
The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command - Chemical Biological Center (DEVCOM-CBC) is offering an undergraduate internship.
What will I be doing?
As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to research biomanufacturing of biopharmaceutical products in potentially austere environments. Biomanufacturing is a rapidly advancing field that seeks to harness biological systems to domestically develop and produce critical materials within the advanced manufacturing industry. The ability to deploy Biomanufacturing technologies outside of the laboratory setting is an urgent need that seeks to respond to a threat-driven environment by being agile, and adaptable. Emerging technologies in the deployable biomanufacturing realm aspire to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and vaccine needs to individuals in field relevant quantities. This effort seeks to advance the deployable biomanufacturing capabilities by evaluating small high throughput biomanufacturing systems to produce a variety of biopharmaceutical products. In addition to production and purification of aforementioned products, potency, formulations, stability, and encapsulation methods will be evaluated.
Why should I apply?
Education
Under the guidance of a mentor, you will gain hands-on experience to complement your education and support your academic and professional goals. Along the way, you will learn and engage in research activities in several areas. These include, but are not limited to:
- Learning about large-scale cell-based and cell-free production and purification approaches.
- Conducting quality protein product evaluations to validate promising drug candidates.
- Applying design and engineering skills to optimize drug candidates and the production platforms being utilized at DEVCOM-CBC.
Where will I be located?
Edgewood, MD
What is the anticipated start date?
06/15/2026
Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships or fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
