Role: AU Team Lead Accountant

Location: Hybrid - 1x a week onsite (Makati OR Pampanga)

Job Overview

The Team Lead Accountant is a subject matter expert in Australian bookkeeping and accounting, responsible for delivering accurate, compliant, and timely outcomes for clients. The role may be assigned as a dedicated resource for a specific client or operate as part of a shared service team supporting multiple customers.

This role includes leading and managing Junior and Intermediate Accountants through quality reviews, process compliance checks, and coaching. The Team Lead Accountant may also support client transitions, account setups, clean-ups, and advanced accounting tasks as assigned by the Team Manager or Service Delivery Manager.


Duties and Responsibilities

Recordkeeping & Compliance

  • Perform and/or maintain strong working knowledge of end-to-end Australian bookkeeping and accounting processes, including:
  • Customer receipting
  • Supplier payments and expense processing
  • Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Payroll processing
  • Month-end close activities and workpapers
  • Financial statements preparation
  • Reporting and compliance requirements
  • Client account clean-ups

Proactive Issue Escalation

  • Identify and escalate potential risks or issues impacting clients or the business.
  • Provide recommendations to mitigate risks based on data, reviews, and observations.

Process & Workflow Management

  • Monitor and manage client communications, ensuring all tickets and requests are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with internal support teams and clients to drive continuous process improvement.
  • Manage operational issues and risks while supporting improvements for both clients and the business.
  • Lead or support client transitions, when applicable, including:
  • Transition planning and execution
  • Preparation of transition updates, reports, and scorecards
  • Coordination with Sales teams during onboarding and transition phases

Process Compliance & Quality Reviews

  • Conduct scheduled compliance reviews and quality checks on work completed by Junior and Intermediate Accountants.
  • Update quality audit forms, trackers, and reports to provide management visibility.

Coaching & Mentoring

  • Coach and provide constructive feedback to Junior and Intermediate Accountants to improve quality, efficiency, and client outcomes.
  • Document coaching sessions, feedback provided, and ensure understanding and sign-off.

Reporting & Administration

  • Complete daily time tracking using Xero Practice Manager or other provided tools.
  • Perform ad hoc tasks as assigned by the Team Manager or Service Delivery Manager.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business course.

Experience & Product Knowledge

  • 3–5 years of experience as an Australian Accountant.
  • Strong understanding of client accounts and business operations.
  • Additional expertise as required by specific clients.

Systems & Tools

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with accounting platforms such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, and other client-used systems.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and tools as required.

Quality & Professional Standards

  • Works within established quality guidelines.
  • Delivers accurate and compliant work with minimal supervision.

Communication & Efficiency

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage workload within allocated budgeted hours.
  • Consistently meets deadlines and service-level expectations.
