Role Overview 🚀

This role will play a key part in shaping, scaling, and maturing Benifex’s engineering presence in Cebu. Working in close alignment with the EVP of Product Engineering, UK-based Engineering Directors, and other Engineering Managers, you will help establish sustainable team structures, embed strong engineering culture and ways of working, and support the long-term growth of the organisation.

Responsibilities🤘

Engineering Operations & Scaling

  • Support the setup and scaling of engineering teams in Cebu, including team structure, role clarity, and growth planning.
  • Help establish and continuously improve engineering ways of working, delivery practices, and operational rhythms.
  • Partner with UK-based Engineering Directors, and other Engineering Managers to ensure Cebu teams are well integrated with global engineering functions

Leadership & Culture Building

  • Act as a role model for Benifex’s engineering culture, values, and standards
  • Create an environment where engineers can do their best work, with a strong focus on coaching, feedback, and development
  • Support the development of future engineering leaders within the Cebu organisation
  • Works closely with the Product Manager and Tech Lead to provide guidance and coaching to squad members on technical contributions, product roadmap and other areas. 
  • Provides feedback and helps engineers grow their skills. Ensures adherence to development methodologies. 
  • Proactively track engineer well-being, spot burnout, and suggest solutions. Report up to address systemic issues. 

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with local operations and office leadership to support engagement, wellbeing, and a strong engineering identity in Cebu
  • Act as a local engineering leader, helping bridge global strategy with local execution
  • Directly manages engineers, guides work, estimations and removes blockers. You are the first escalation point. 
  • Standardise processes (e.g. agile ceremonies, code quality standards), but give squads autonomy for effective delivery. 
  • Tracks tasks, maintains project velocity, and owns squad-level deliverables against the roadmap. 
  • Use metrics to track quality and delivery. Encourage retrospective analysis for continuous improvement. 

What are we looking for? 🔎

  • Experience contributing to the setup, scaling, or maturation of engineering teams, beyond simply managing an established squad.
  • Experience working in distributed or multi-site engineering organisations
  • Experience managing engineers in environments undergoing growth or change
  • Comfort operating at both strategic and hands-on levels as teams and processes evolve
  • Understanding Technical Requirements with a Focus on Quality: Translate product requirements into squad plans and capacity, while also having a keen eye for ensuring high coding standards, maintainability, and the prevention of technical debt. 
  • Agile Expertise: Experience implementing and iterating on Agile processes (like Scrum or Kanban) including task breakdown, estimation, and sprint planning. 
  • Quality Champion: Intrinsically motivated to produce high-quality code and instills a focus on maintainability, testing, and code standards within the team. 
  • Results-Driven and Process-Oriented: Able to balance adherence to Agile methodologies and delivery timelines with a focus on continuous improvement. Familiar with using OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) to set measurable goals.
  • Passion for Product: You care about WHY we are building product and the value it brings to users and HOW we build product in terms of quality and standards.
