Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining, inspecting, testing, and repairing fire protection and life safety systems in compliance with local codes, standards, and company policies. Their role typically includes leadership or mentoring of junior technicians.
  • System Maintenance & Inspection
    • Conduct regular inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance of fire protection systems (sprinklers, alarms, extinguishers, smoke control, emergency lighting). Ensure life safety systems comply with NFPA standards and local fire codes. Identify and report deficiencies, recommending corrective actions.
  • Installation & Commissioning
    • Assist or oversee installation of fire alarm, suppression, and detection systems. Verify system functionality through acceptance testing. Coordinate with contractors and vendors during new installations or upgrades.
  • Troubleshooting & Repair
    • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in fire alarm panels, detectors, sprinklers, and emergency systems. Ensure minimal downtime of critical safety systems. Maintain accurate records of repairs, replacements, and incidents.
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Prepare inspection reports, maintenance logs, and compliance documentation. Update system schematics and technical manuals. Provide reports for management, insurance audits, or regulatory authorities.
  • Emergency Response Support
    • Respond to fire alarm activations, system failures, or safety incidents. Support evacuation procedures and emergency drills. Ensure all safety systems function during high-risk events.
Qualifications

  • Technical Skills
    • Deep knowledge of fire alarm and life safety systems, including:
    • Fire alarms and detection systems
    • Sprinkler and suppression systems
    • Smoke control and pressurization fans
    • Emergency lighting and exit systems
    • Proficient in reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and system layouts
    • Troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance expertise
    • Familiarity with NFPA, OSHA, and local fire codes
    • Use of testing and calibration tools for fire systems
  • Soft Skills
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
    • Attention to detail, especially for inspections and compliance documentation
    • Good communication skills for reporting, coordination, and training
    • Leadership and mentoring capabilities
    • Ability to work under pressure during emergency situations
